1G G4CS Local find

Figured I post this up as I’m sure some of you would appreciate it. Motor had 58k original miles of it. Got it for a steal

So is it a big bore version of a 4g block? Thats what it looks like but I wasn't familiar with it. Nice snag anyway if it was a steal!

Hyundai version of a 4g64, 6 bolt to be precise. Heck of a find!

I have two others on the way. What u guys think .... destroked 2.1l auto of 2.4 l auto . I’m thinking 2.4 as I’m finding these auto transmission are a pain in the ass to get shifting quickly at those Rpms with the shift box. I notice the engine hits the rev limiter a time or two occasionally When I’m really ripping it.

Wish I'd known the g64b was a viability a couple years ago, there were 3 of them at my local yards, all complete. I didn't know at the time they were even a usable option or I would've grabbed them.

It's funny I've seen more 2.4 6 bolts being found lately than ever. I recently got my second from a 92 expo, then these two. Pretty cool!

Personally I'd go for a 2.4 in the auto, 2.1 destroker needs to be behind a manual, preferably a dog box. Lightning quick shifts for those stratospheric rpms.

I thought G64B was a wide block. I have seen some in the mini trucks but never thought about being the same as the DSM.

I do know we can use the cranks which is the same (6 bolt 4G64) but never knew it was a narrow block.

I've seen this info tossed around online, but i remember visually seeing 3 fwd Colt vistas with g64b's in them. Scraped the tags clean to see if one was a 4g64 mark, but they all said g64b, so I wrote wrote them off not thinking about it. Funny thing is they Colt vista wasn't equipped with the 2.4 from the factory.

Thinking back, it's strange that 3 Colt vistas all showed up at the junk yard at the same time...maybe someone unsuccessful swapped them and decided they'd had enough?

if they are already pulled from the cars and the transmissions removed, the best way to verify that they are Narrow blocks is to bring a basic tape measure with you, and measure the bell housing dowel bolt centers narrow blocks are 12.75 inches across

So I just verified that the block is from a 1987 Mitsubishi Galant fwd, they want 300 bucks. It’s about an hour away. Might be worth the travel

30+ year old main bearings .... I wonder if these straight cut gears can be used in a 4g63 pump ?

Doesn’t anyone know off the top of their head if the g4cs crank is forged ? I haven’t taken a look at the parting line yet . I know you can get a 7 bolt 4g64 crank that is forged.

Based on what i see I would say without a doubt the crank is forged. The rods and crank have a flat wide parting line. Does not look cast

There is several locally, including the g4cb? Out of 87 galant fwd , I was gunna buy more but I have WAY to much junk.

I have one from a 91 Hyundai Sonata. Crank is still in it. Spins so nice. Block needs freeze plugs though.
