Funny DSM newb.

So I was at the local hangout spot last night where me and some friends with nice cars like to hangout. We all have decently nice cars. Me having a 91 TSI. (look at my pictures). My buddy Tim has a 04 STI there is a Turbo II RX-7 (ricer) and several other decent cars. When this kid with a new Dodge pickup pulled up after seeing my 1g and starts talking about his old Eclipse. His friend starts saying how sick the car was....so this got my curios. I get out of my car and ask him what mods he had installed.

So he starts rambling on and starts saying how he had a "front mount" the "Cyclone Intake Manifold" (), a CAI, 3" exhaust, and a MBC.

So after all of this I asked him if he had the 16g turbo upgrade or any fuel mods. He said "No I had the 14b because it holds more PSI then all of the stock ones". And I don't know about you guys but my 14b runs out of power at like 6200 RPMS.....and he claims he was taking his 14b up to 7500. . So then we get talking about AWD launching and he then said "I usually rap it up to the rev limiter and just dump that bi***"... So I look at my friend Tim with the STI and start laughing...

God this kid was a real tool.

Like erald01 said, he probably never owned a DSM. He is just some stupid kid that is trying to sound cool. Wish I could have been there, I have been needing a good laugh.

Doesnt mean he is a lier. The 14b does hold boost better than any of the other stock turbos used on dsm's(13b, t25). Also he could be launching it like that, doesnt mean its going to last long. Ive seen so many guys with stock dsm's and an mbc. You ask them how much boost they are running and they say 20, 25psi. With no mods.

Our cars get bad reps because of people like this guy. They break it from being a jack ass and blame it on the car. People get away with it because the old 6 bolts are tanks and can handle lots of knock for a long time before going boom!! Like the owner of a tuner shop said to me, "cant destroy them with even a hand grenade".

Yeah this town I live in is horrible.
The kid with the RX-7 runs no exhaust, some cheap ass BOV they wanted to put on my car, the entire car is spray painted flat black and he rods the hell out of it ... It is a cool car but has much more potential then what he can give it.. It is an 87 FC

Plus in this town I own the only 1GA TSI and it is by far the nicest 1g in this entire place... Haha I love how every person I pass just stares at my ride because they probably don't even know what it is because I took all of the stickers off of it and just left the badging.

I did get beat by a 86 Supra N/T that was running a 75 shot of nitrous.. But as he flew by all I could smell was clutch and nitrous haha. We ran them from the top of first. I did re race him and beat him from the top of second pretty easily.

Perhaps someone should change the Hangout description, it is rather misleading because it says "NON DSM RELATED".
This guy is a NEWB he needs to go in the NEWB section. Seems justified to me.

no joke. makes me sad that people think they can just strap on a MBC and crank it without any supporting mods or anything to monitor what is going on. Then it blows up and they wonder why.

Yeah. Agreed 100%. All those guys keep telling me to mod my car and all this but what they don't understand is you need to do everything at once. Yes I will mod my car when I get all of my parts such as the 16g, DSM link, MBC, Clutch, Exhaust, and all of the supporting fuel mods, gauges etc. I already got the rebuild out of the way though .

The newbie section and all the other tech sections are for questions relating to the cars. The hangout is for stories and random things, just like this.

The 14b will make power past 6,200 rpm on a mild car. The power drop off at 6,200 is because of the cams/intake manifold.

I dump my clutch every time I launch the car. I'm on the stutterbox though. The reason I do this is I know how the launch is going to be every time. And my tires or clutch will always spin. This is how I limit the shock on my drivetrain. This is why I have a clutch that is weaker than most people would buy for this setup and why I still have street tire right now. Once I get slicks I will have to change how I launch. My drivetrain has not had a single problem since I started beating on the car.

That's pretty much how every STI I see launch when autocrossing.
