Hello everyone. I'm working on a 2nd gen Eclipse with the 420a and I'm having a fuel pump issue. It's a new pump and I've replaced the relays and I can hear them "snap" open and closed. Even with all of that I'm still not hearing the pump prime. The car will run with short spurts of starting fluid but obviously I don't want to keep doing that. Does anyone have an idea on what exactly is going on? I have a friend that swears that the fuel level sensor will not let the pump prime if it's not sending fuel level which I think is a load of crap. Thanks in advance.

The fuel level sending (float) is just intended to provide a gauge reading and, when low enough, a warning light. The fuel pump would still recieve power and attempt operation even with a signal of completely E (or no signal at all).

Is there something wrong with the sending unit though? A simple gauge reading could rule out what he said. And surely the tank has fuel in it, right? WTF
