Ok so here's my situation, tlcoolj recently moved to town and we have been working on my 1g the last couple weekends and after sitting for about a year without being moved, we put some gas in it and got everything hooked back up (battery plug wires, etc) and she fired up to our amazement. Well, we found out that my wastegate was staying open, (stupid half assed repair) and that I was leaking fuel out from my injectors. Well tlcoolj looked and found out that I was missing two o-ring seals on my injectors. We got some off another buddies car who was tearing his engine apart and it fixed the leak but now we have no fuel pressure to the fuel rail. We tried bleeding the rail and turning the key over until the fuel pump comes on and still nothing.. There is some fuel getting to the rail just not much pressure getting it there. My question is what could be causing the lack of pressure in the fuel rail??

could be a clogged line or fuel filter. i would check the filter first.

The filter might be the issue I didn't check it but then again it is a fairly new filter. I was thinking it might be the pump not working completely. I can hear it kick on but it doesn't sound like a normal 190 should.

These cars don't prime the system when you turn the key to the on position. You have to crank the engine to get pressure to the rail. IS this a fwd or awd? It could be that the connection inside the tank is leaking fuel pressure into the tank. I doubt that the filter is clogged. That is actually pretty rare for the filter to be so badly clogged that it won't flow at all.

OK we tried to turn the car over and its not doing anything. I was thinking that maybe the sock was nasty and needed replaced but I don't have the space to drop the fuel tank and I don't want to go cutting into everything. I was hoping that it was something simple like it being air locked or something from pulling the injectors out but maybe not.

Do you mean fuel pressure solenoid, or fuel pressure regulator? If the solenoid were bad than it would have plenty pressure. If the regulator were bad than it could be limited, but it would be squirting out the vacuum tube.

I meant to say the regulator but I didn't know that it would go out the vacume hose.

So we figured out what the deal was with the fuel pressure. Turned out to be a bit of bad gas and fouled plugs. She fired up on Sunday and actually ran somewhat decent considering all the boost leaks that I have that need to be fixed. Also, will get a video up when we get everything taken care of and have a chance to get a good video of her.

Thanks man!! And with a little girl that is fixing to turn two its hard to save up. I usually use what I have left over from my bonus from work to fix stuff. She will eventually be getting a new FMIC to get rid of the EVO III core she has now as well as a new exhaust. Its just hard to find one that is for a FWD

everything you were describing sounded EXACTLY like my problem. been on the forums for the pass 3 hrs tonight ontop of many days these 2 weeks & this was close but no cigar. at least now i know the haynes manual is wrong about priming the fuel rail (says it should be at 45-55psi for one minute) and buying a new pressure regulator is not necessary.

I have a 98 RS 5sp with a star stage 2 kit. it sat in layup for 9months as i coughed up the funds to get a new engine, tranny, battery, sensors, turbo & turbo components. shooting for a poor mans 918 spyder. :thumb:

all the fluids are topped off. the fuel stabilizer did its job & allowed me to drive 3 blocks down to get a 3/4 tank from just being above the E. I drove it around my neighborhood with lots of hills for 2 hrs to ensure the car works and not going beyond 3k rpm. I took the same rev limit approach to go on the freeway and TWICE its died on me not going pass 10 miles from my house. relays click, hear the pump stay on, its not over heating it just simply dies in a way like someone killed the fuel to the engine. cranking wont start it. using the gears wont start it.

it just starts the next day all fine...least how the pass 2 days have been with her.
