Fresh engine and tranny.... Oil leak.

No leaks during the first 500 miles... When I went to do the oil change at around 700 miles there was bareley any oil left in the pan... Not enough gone to cause damage but it was a substancial amount... The timing belt looks soaked in oil and the leak only started after 550 miles or so.. Help!!!!!!!!

Did you install all new oil seals on the timing belt side? If you did, maybe one of the seals were damaged upon install. If not, one or is probably leaking. It could be the crank seal, cam seal, oil pump seal, or a bolt that has oil on the engine side (ie, balance shaft sproket). The timing covers will have to be pulled to know for sure.

Why wouldn't the oil leak present itself until after 500 miles or so?

Have you been checking the t-belt every time you drive it (upper and lower ends)? If the leak is down bottom it could be the front cover gasket and if up top most likely the cam seals. It may have been present you just did not notice it. Unfortunately, oil DRASTICALLY reduces the lifespan of a timing belt. Find the leak, fix it, and get that oil off that t-belt somehow or replace it along with the gasket that is leaking. I had a little bit of oil on my timing belt and it sheared teeth off at 10k on a completely fresh motor! It's better to do it now than to rebuild your head and motor again in a few months. Believe me.
