I put down 287 to the whells on 18lbs falling to 15 on my t28 with 550s, fuel pump exhaust boostcontroller basically.... 16gs are overated...

my point is everybody is saying that a t28 isnt as good as a 16g when in fact the intake side of a t28 is larger, but the exhaust side is smaller if you port the t28 than you are bigger than a big 16g.. .

So now you measure a turbo's worth by the size of the inlet ports on the compressor and exhaust housings? You have got to be kidding me.

Results are what matter.

Porting out an exhaust housing inlet isn't going to change anything.

thats not my point, my point is everbody says a t28 isnt worth anything, theyve been proven time and time again and for someone who doesnt want to break ther shit it a good turbo for a direct bolt on no install kit.

I never said a T28 wasn't worth anything, just as I never said that 16Gs are overrated (like I may have heard recently).

A T28 is definitely better than a T25. A T28 is a pretty good autox turbo. Evo III 16Gs are good autox turbos, too.

But a 16G will just plain make more torque and power than a T28. I don't think there is any denying that.

I run 20psi daily with my Evo III, it holds it all the way to redline. Turbos that have boost that falls off at the top end feel like slugs. I know, I had a small 16G that would do the same thing. I hated it, but I really didn't notice that I hated it til I had a turbo that didn't do it. :)

That T25 oil line is a bi*** to get off too. I ruined mine but it didn't matter because I was installing a EVO16G.

How much max boost can EVO16G hold til 7000 and how much boost can a T28 hold till 7000?

I bet the t28 spools faster inbetween shifts and such but I rather have more power from a already quick spooling turbo.

For real though, if I had a AWD I'd get the T28 over the EVO16G. First few gears would be sick.

Anybody running a T28 with a 1/4 mile time of 113-115 mph want to chime in. I'd just like to hear from people who actually have the turbo and aren't just "theorizing" about it.

They really aren't all that different in terms of spoolup.

The Evo III can hold 24 to 26 psi on my car to 7500RPM. And I have cams, too, which should lower the max boost the turbo can hold.

Just look over at the times list over at dsmtimes.org Anyways... I run the HKS 264/272 combo with my FP Big28 and can hold 22psi in 4th gear all the way to red line. I'am also using FP's 17psi wastegate actuator, and running a 75 wet shot. 23 to 24 psi is all your going to get out of the FP Big28 and that's pushing it IMO. I know the EVO III flows a tad more, but not enough for me to just swap my Big28 out for it. I don't recall the EVO III being out when I purchased my FP Big28. I could be wrong on that, or it just wasn't discussed about like it has been lately. I purchased my Big28 3yrs ago. :)

I see one guy running a 12.22 @ 112.76 mph and another 12.300 @ 111.84 mph. This is the problem, there are maybe 1/10 the number of guys with T28s vs. 16gs. The times are pretty damned good but I'm not impressed by the mph at all. A 114 mph should be possible even on a stock heavy 2g AWD. I was hoping there was somebody out there trapping above 114 mph or 115 mph. Not everybody posts their times on the dsmtimes.org link.

Screw it, I already have a setup that should trap fairly well, I'm headed out to Rt. 66 Speedway or Union Grove,IL. and see what the hell this T28 can do.

Yeah I agree with you. You just have to keep in mind that 16g's have been out now for well over a decade, and the Big28 has only been out for a little over 3yrs. So... with that being said depending on your elevation, gas type, and supporting mods, that's including a 1g tb, intake manifold, 1g or 2g ported head, and some great tuning, it is going to be really tough to trap that high in an awd with the Big28. Good luck to you, and keep us posted. :thumb:

O.K.,

Just got back from a tuning run. Maybe 70*F outside. Pulled 2% fuel from 4500-7000 rpm. Big difference in the top end, car stays squated very hard in 3rd gear from 4000-6500 rpm. I'm running my pump gas tune, right around 19 psi, more than enough for the street.

I wasn't looking for a race but I ended up directly behind this 1997-2004 C5 Corvette at a stop light out in the forest preserves, the 350 h.p. base model I presume. They probably trap somewhere in the 109 mph range or so if I recall.

I had no idea this guy was going to launch hard and just take off, I was purposely giving him a lot of room as not to antagonize the guy. Now, to avoid rear ending him and since he was directly in my lane, I gave him 10 car lengths and then rolled out fast and gave chase. So basically I give up the AWD launch advantage and spot him 10 car lengths. Let me tell you, he was making a very serious attempt at putting bus lengths on me.

Well, at about 30-50 mph I put an immediate stop on the car lengths. By 50-75 mph I had already matched his acceleration curve and was pacing him. Now, at this point I was fairly impressed with his car and also a little disappointed he was holding me off for this long. I'm not used to seeing tail lights during a race, even spotting such a huge head start, I usually can run down most average street cars. I'm starting to think it is going to be a long drawn out fight but then by 75 mph I start reeling him in very slowly. By 85 mph I've made up 3 car lengths, with 7 car lengths to go I'm closing fast on his rear bumper, and its starting to make me very nervous since he is still in my lane. At this point I already know I'm going to pull past him, it's only a matter of another 5-6 seconds, so I check up early at which point he hits his brakes also.

Normally, I would have stayed into the throttle past 110-120 mph and crushed this guy to make the point, but not with him directly in my lane.

I've had my FPT28/28 for 5 years now, way way before the EVOIII 16g was available, before the Big28 was available. Its got some decent midrange and topend, considering what it is. I'm going to upgrade to an EVOIII 16g once I lay done a respectable number on the T28.

So... do you think that if you guys were door to door from a roll that you would have pulled him? I personally have pulled on a few stock C5's at 19psi from a roll, and now since my cams and 75 shot I can pull on stock ZO6's. :)

My ported FP28 in my fully built Eclipse with 264/264 cams was a little dissapointing so I put an FPgreen in instead and it's like night & day. I would skip the T28 if you are looking for serious power. Even installed in my 1G AWD it is an improvement over the 14B but not very much.

Big props to anyone who could milk 350 hp out of an FP28 because you must have near perfect tuning. I just hope alot of fence sitters realize that bolting on a T28 doesn't mean an instant 300+ hp because it will take work.

If your talking about 350 crank hp, then that is probably about right for it. I was told by Robert at FP that the Big28 would flow enough to support around 360 to 370 crank hp with full supporting mods, and of course that's with good tuning. I currently run cams and a 75 shot with mine. :)

Im damn sure I could hit 350whp with my T-28. There are other T-28's out there other then just FP Big T-28. Im laying down to the front 267whp/288tq, @ 19psi with bad tunning (im using just the maf-t), stock IC, no cams.
Not to sound like im benchin it up but with Dsmlink, FMIC, and Cams and w/ a wideband to tune up with, I think its possiable for 350+

Generation X,

Your setup is almost identical to mine, except for the nitrous, congrats. I don't "think" I could touch a NEWER Z06, even on race gas and 23 psi. I think those suckers are trapping in the 116 mph range. I'll have to e-mail you about your setup.

From a door to door roll, I have no doubt I would have crushed this C5 Corvette bad by 110 mph, even on only 19 psi and pump gas. My closing speed on his rear bumper was getting alarming at 85 mph, even spotting him 10 car lengths off the line. I was actually smiling as I was closing in on him, I knew he was beat already.

My setup is a hair faster than the new 400 h.p. Z51 Corvette, based on C&D's published acceleration times and my DSMLINK datalog acceleration times on 21 psi pump gas, for what its worth. I can only trust that my wheel speed sensors are accurate, but thats all I have to go on until I hit the track. I believe that car runs 12.6 @ 113 mph on a radar clocked 1/4 run. I'm not saying I have 400 h.p., but my car out accelerates it by a teany bit.

Hell Yeah man... sounds like your car is running very strong. Keep it up. :thumb:

Had a couple runins with a few "high performance cars". First one was a Dodge SRT-4 on the expressway at about 80 mph. No idea if he was stock or modified, had the requisite FMIC though. This guy just had to get in front of me no matter what though, cutting me off at every opportunity. Finally, I pass him and he drops in behind me, riding my bumper. I roll into the throttle at 80 mph giving him a chance to pace me then I floor it in 4th gear. I walk away from him pretty easily, stopping at 100 mph. After that, for some reason he will not pass me no matter what, even with an open expressway in front of his lane. I'll say this though, those things are freaking quick and I wouldn't go up against one without a fairly modified DSM.

Next "race" was a standard WRX with a body kit and at least an exhaust system and BOV. Now, this one was very very quick and responsive, no way was this thing stock. This guy however is exploding from one gap in traffic to another, I'm barely able to hold him off from cutting in front of me. I was most impressed as it just looked like a ricer mobile. Usually my car needs some revs to really start to put the distance on cars, tight traffic is not my cars strong suit even with a T28. However, a gap in traffic opens up, and this is where, unbelievably, the T28 actually has an advantage. Well, he's finally forced to drop in behind me and decides he needs to ride my bumper. Now, I have no problem with this as I don't have a cat and thanks to my VPC, I also shoot flames out the exhaust on occasion. Ride my bumper all you like. Anyway, I roll into the throttle progessively to give him a chance to keep up, then floor it. Again, I walk away from him from 80-100 mph, probably by 3 car lengths. This guy I wanted to crush badly and was planning on taking it up to 130 mph, but decided 100 mph was good enough. Although he couldn't resist letting me hear his stupid BOV as he passed me. Damned ricer.

Next runin was against a supercharged V8 93 mustang convertable. I could hear the supercharger whine at every light, and the compressor surge when he'd drop the throttle on the roll. This one had me scared though, but for some reason he would not pass me no matter what. He finally drops in behind me and again I roll into the throttle in 3rd gear so he can keep up, then I plant the throttle and pull away from him. But on this one I got the feeling he was just trying to see what I had without putting up much of a fight. So I pull to the right and let him come up next to me, and we start talking about mods while we're driving. I ask him if he's turboed, he says nope, supercharged. Then he asks me what I've got almost hoping I'm not stock, and I tell him I've got a turbo upgrade, among the FMIC and exhaust that he could see. If we hadn't showed each other so much respect we might actually have had a serious race, I have no idea if I would have won or lost. Real classy guy though, nice to see other gear heads showing some respect for each other.

Last runin was with a Silver Saleen Mustang on the expressway at 80 mph. From far away it looked like a ricer. HOWEVER, this thing was UNBELIEVABLY loud. It actually hurt to have this guy next to me at 80 mph. Only thing I could compare it to was like a P51 Mustang on a straffing run. Sounded more like a cammed, stroked, and open piped V8, but just completely unnaturally loud. Definitely NO supercharger or forced induction though. This thing definitely had the intimidation factor. So I let him get up on my rear, and at 4500 rpm at 80 mph in 4th gear, which is my cars sweet spot, I plant the throttle. He just seemed interested to just pace from a distance, and I pulled over to the right after I did one WOT pull, so he could continue on in the fast lane. Again, no ricey bullshit from this guy. However, he got me back by just sitting next to me at 80 mph, just sitting there being obnoxiously loud. Was actually kind of funny. Cool car though.

Seems like the T28 has some seriously nasty topend pull once the temps start dropping into the 40's. I have absolutely no problems burying 4th gear up to 120 mph with the rear end squatted down and being pushed into the seat. I attribute this to the 3" Thermal catback which completely transformed my cars topend, as compared to my Greddy 60mm exhaust previously. Before, even with cams, T28, VPC, FMIC, etc., I'd be gunshy to race anybody on the expressway, the topend was that bad. But man, with the 3" exhaust, this little T28 got unleashed.

probably beaten to death but the t28k and the e316G are very similar turbos as far as limit wise go.

as far as street usage goes, i've beaten countless ricers, srt-4's,VW's, and recently a modded WRX STi.

pboglio, no offense but I don't see how you could ever beat a c6 vette with a t28. baah, enough bench racing..
