FMIC suggestions

im going to get a FMIC set up here shortly, and ive heard many things but most that worries me is i hear about people overheating, is their any certain size of FMIC that i can get that will allow better airflow to keep from over heating, or can i not avoid that?

1g is a lot different then a 2g.

mine still goes through the core support. that on the 2g kit it go through in one spot.

Just trim along that red line and cut out the "triangle".

thats not really really hacking up... i can see it hacked up if you dont have the right tools.

i dont think id have to hack it with the set up im getting, but im anticipating not having my fog lights bc of the FMIC set up so thats no biggie for me

I wouldn't get the vr-speed inter-cooler unless you want to hack up your core support to run the piping through. Then punishment / Cx racing set up is really nice and you can either use a 1g, or greddy flanged bov.

you make it seem like if you have to cut alot and like if its going to be a bi*** to to. it pretty much takes no less than 30 seconds to make the hole with a cutoff tool; and plus you can always go to home depot and circle cutter that attaches to a drill and just cut a hole about 2 3/4" to let the intercooler pipe slide thru.... that dont look like a hack job if you tell me......

and by the way you can also use any bov desired since all it takes to go from one flange to another is just a few turns and there you go!!!

You could go for the supra sidemount intercooler if you are worried about overheating I have fmic and it does get hot under hood I am thinkin about using some heat wraps and I have used the redline wetter it did help plus a vented carbon fiber hood will help as well

What do you mean a few turns to change the bov flange? Doesn't make sense.

I understand that i just don't like cutting in to my car unless i have to. plus you still have to relocate the coolant overflow just seems like a hassle, i've installed 4 punishment kits and everything stays stock with no modifications and its a nice setup for the price.

what i mean is that the flanges are screw in type. you can screw in a new flange whenever you desired, is that simple, the intercooler pipe is threaded and comes with 2 flanges, a greddy, and a 1g bov, depending on what flange yo desire. sry for the crappy camera pic. I think they are the first company to do this.... great idea if you tell me

My friend got the kit your looking at that cost's 250 shipped he said he needed to cut a couple of pipes to get it fitting correctly but over all was pretty easy, And it looks amazing. But I myself am going to get the SSautochrome kit it's affordable and about 5 people here in UT can vouche for it.

That's cool, the punishment is set up for both too but i can see that looks cleaner, to bad the don't have an hks flange.

VR speed factory does =) and since it just screws right in you dont have to well anything and it takes about 1 min to change them out

What kit are you talking about??? the VR SPEED FACTORY KIT or another one that looks like it??? because there are quite a few kits out there that look like each other and people tend to confuse them with with one another when indeed they are diferent........ I didn't have to cut any pipes at all, i bought my kit with the j pipe option, and i thought i was gonna have problems since mines automatic, but i didn't and it all just fit perfect

ETS Street on mine with a 18G and supporting mods, works amazingly well even in the smothering heat + outrageous humidity we get here in SE Texas. No cutting or other modifications needed to get it bolted up, worth every penny. I switched over to 100% distilled water with 1 bottle of water wetter and it helped to drop the temps about 10* or so as well...

nice so what kits will require no hacking of the car, or the least work to make it fit...that you are sure of?

punishment kit is complete bolt on with no hacking. You will have to trim your bumper. The only thing i recommend is upgrading the clamps.

Im running greddy's big kit, install was easy as hell. No overheating issues. All in all I still think it was way to f'ing expensive.

It aint that complicated. Just get a dremel. I did mine a few months ago and felt the same way. I started by taking off about one inch and from there its all subjective based on the FMIC and your standards.


I am running an OBX kit off ebay (Greddy Knockoff). Needed new smaller couplers though. Its fine. No cooling/overheating issues and holds up to 25 psi so far.

Wait, this is the 2g VR-Speed kit you're showing a pic of?

Because my kit, which I bought on the last group buy came with a welded 1g/greddy flange. This meant the holes were slotted to fit both. There was NO screw on type of flange.

Yeah man im talking about the VR speed fmic kit, no other; like i said the kit has been redesigned once again, i was very happy with the new improvements they made, I bout mine a few months after the group buy so im guessing they did the improvements after. no issues whatsoever

I know why they made improvements....I, and a select few, told Tiago that the flange that was slotted for both 1g/greddy bovs was leaking air through the slots since the slots reached into the base of the 1g bov where it saw boost/air.

Im glad he payed attention. He's a good vendor for that. Ive given that guy a lot of my money. haha

So, do this mean he set up the kit so that if I chose the 1g bov, for example, I can simply screw in a Tial flange to run the 50 mm? Or is this only for the 1g/Greddy combo (since they are very much alike in flange style)?

If this is the case, he's going to be in the lead in which FMIC Im going with for my gsx. That design will persuade many ppl.

when i first saw this improvement one of the first things i asked him was if he had other flange options that can be screwed onto the pipe and he said yeah . so im pretty sure hes got screw in flanges for a few different types of bov as well. yup definetly a great new design
