Hey guys i currently own a 1994 camry Le and trying to sell to buy a 1st or 2nd gen tsi but cant seem to find one. sucky eh? hoping i can find one soon or even a fixer im a noob and learning what i can about the cars any suggestions on a dsm to pick from??

definately go for a turbo model if you can.
it all depends on how much you can get out of the camry:thumb:

yeah ive been looking at cars on craigslist for a while and trying to get atleast 3k outta mine i found an Eagle Talon TSI AWD Turbo but the head is shot and the kid is fixing it for me if i can get 2k he will sell me it for 2k 145k miles and its black looks pretty smexi imo =P

ok it all depends on you.. i would take that kids awd but 2g sounds a little high for it... unles you want to post the link to it so i can read up on it but unless it has some work done to it im pretty damn sure thats a little high.. try this get him to fix it and show up at his house with sixteen in your hand and another tewo in your back pocket.. trust me money talk LOL.

Im not sure how much experience you've had with wrenching on cars but i purchased a working, running, driving dsm and have had to fix several problems since. I think if its your first dsm and your mechanical knowledge is limited, at least buy one that runs and doesnt need work, trust me youll be fixing things soon enough. Good luck with the purchase, IMHO 1ga or 1gb awd turbo with 6/4 combo is the best. :D

ya come to think about it i would fel safer doing that then anything else... cause you are right buying a non running dsm is just stupid cause you have no idea what the hell is wrong with it.. even if it doesnt have a battery... ok imho i would say the same thing get one that is running and i gaurantee soon enough something will need replaced.. in my whole life i have had to change everything but the batterry sense i got into dsm's so you will get your fair share LOL

DSM's are great, but not for someone that is not ready to work on their car. My first car was a DSM, 98 GSX w/ 170k miles on it. When I bought it, I didn't know what I was in for. I had no knowledge, but was eager to dig into any problems I would come across. Little did I know in the year I owned it, I had to fix an idle surge, overheating problem, WOT boost problem, power steering pump, idler pully, and 2 blown turbo's. Trust me, if you are not ready to work on your car, I would HIGHLY recommend you keep your nice reliable Camry till you are comfortable.

well i dont have much experiance on engines but i am ASE certified for Auto Collision LOL but that doesnt help.. i know how to turn a wrench tho and im a fast learner and with what ive been told these cars are easy as hell to work on.. so idk

ive been in the engine bay of a dsm for over three years now and when i first got into it i had prior knowledge of what can happen and how to fix it... iwould suggest getting ready for a project and starting a bank account strictly for your dsm LOL

LOL. Comparing the two cars is like this:

Heaven = Camry
Hell = DSM

However, I'd rather go to hell and have fun :hellyeah:

Although what's wierd is you don't mention a GSX, don't rule them out, they are the same thing, and alot more of them were made. Whether you want a 1g or 2g is up to you, but keep in mind a 1g has been through alot and a 2g has too, just alittle less. Both cars are pretty old and will have ball-joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, etc. issues. Then you add a turbo :thumb: and you have a whole new amount of shit to deal with:notgood:.

In summary, I'd get a DSM in a heartbeat (AWD Turbo), but.......Also keep a reliable car for a D.D.......i.e. Toyota

My .02

heh the thing i was told is that if i do get a dsm is to get one made before 1995 aka 90-95 due to the check engine light and also will not pass NYS instection with a check engine light on... so honestly idk what to do =(

Take the bulb out of the dash. BAM! passed inspection. LOL jk. Get a little orange diagnostic computer and see if any malfunction codes light up. Check what the codes indicate and have it fixed. I don't know what else to tell ya.

I am currently looking for the same thing you are, preferably a Black 95 GSX. I don't want to have to deal with the BS Missouri Emissions. I can get by on safety but no codes can be present or ERASED when you go to get your Emissions done. The most important part of owning a DSM is to have another reliable car ROFL. If you know your way with a wrench than you should be fine. I didnt' know the first thing about cars when I first started and I just learned from this web site and my friends. Now I'm comfortable doing almost anything on a DSM.

yeah what reallly sucks is that no one has a pos dsm that i can work on and take off their hands for like 3 hundo.. cause i live in ny and dont have a flat bed to go pick one up...
