Yea, im about to get this 91 eagle talon n/t and am dealing with car drama such as it starting and working on this turbo set up. other than that, i was wondering what i should put into my car to make it worth the money. im only 16 with no job yet so try n work with me. i was thinking headers or something but cant really find em or what im looking for... i can only pay cash which is a problem i know... poor family but i just gotta work with it. HELP ME OUT! :thumb:

What exactly are you asking? turbo set up or your non turbo car? non turbo, dont know of many upgrades wait unitl you get your turbo then start modding, look on here for upgrade path it will tell you so much about the path, thats the best advice.

600 bucks. i was thinking i could just keep it fwd and nonturbo cause im only 16 and dont have a good money source. what could i do then if i took that path? i mean i can get money but over time. not like thousands but a couple hundred or so

Well if keep it the way it is then get a turbo car, save up and sell the one you have this makes more sense to me i turboed my car but that was me.

Yes bro sell it. Ive seen a galant vr4 out in bakersfiled for sale a few weeks back needed a bit of work but they where asking like 900 or some thing? But if u look on craigslist you'll find one cheap. Jus take your time

Drive it for now while you save up some money and buy an AWD TSI. :hellyeah: Thats the best upgrade i can think of and not to be mean but a 16yr old with a turboed car equals wrapped around a tree. Is this going to be your first car?

Trust me man i came from boosting hondas to dsm. Now i got two of em. Just save what money you can to get a stock turbo car its such a better platform to go off of. There is a lot less hassle as well. Wait for the right one though

honestly because your 16 and your on here asking reasonable questions instead of "Yo, how doez i swap an evo 9 into da ride!?!?!?" your already off to a good start!
when i was 16 i assumed i would have a million dollars and be ken block within a year. no success yet. ROFL

it looks like a pretty clean car so my advice would be to keep it that way. beacuse of the cars age a lot of little things will help it live a long healthy life in service to you.

i would start by changing out the majority of the cars wear & tare components: timing belt, air filter, fuel filter, transmission fluid, radiator flush ect. make sure all your bushings, engine and suspension are healthy and consider replacing any that are worn. trust me, you will feel the difference of bad bushings when you drive. also check the health of the shocks, replacing worn out ones with fresh stockers will improve handling and ride.

all boring stuff i know but that can be one clean and reliable ride if you get all that stuff out of the way.

stay away form the exhaust and lowering the car, in the end it wont make you any faster and never be money well spent on that particular model. drive it and save your money. if you eventually want a turbo FWD you can do the swap down the road and you will have done the maintenance to the rest of the car that will make the difference.
If you love DSMs and should start looking for a not so mint AWD 1g they can be found around the 1000 mark in need of some love. keep your current ride (that is solid and reliable) while you sort out the kinks and dig for power in the other car.

Very nice response endeffect btw like the pic cant wait for snow haha. But yea i agree with everyone else just use that car as a DD and save up some money and buy tsi. Your looking at more then a few hundred bucks to get a turbo setup for your car. Also if the car has alot of miles your just going to end up with more problems. But hey if u set a goal for your self and find a job it is possible to build a nice turbo setup. I am looking to do it myself when i get my lazy ass up and find a job.

True i do like the fact that your on here asking advice on what to do. When i was 16 all i wanted to do was have a fast car :toobad: then the next thing i knew i was on the side of the road with a blow motor. but i learned the hard way. Maintenance befor performance and dont be impatient take it one step at a time. Do what i do and make yourself a DSM to do list, set small goal's for what you want from your car and befor you know it you'll have the car of your dreams. :D

What exactly is a DD? and of course i love DSM's! your crazy if you got something against these cars. i mean im gonna be smart on the road. my brothers are crazy on the road and i get scared but im not scared at the same time cause i know they got it under control....half the time. so ima be a cautious driver but having fun driving. yea this is gonna be my first car but i like 2g eclipses. its funny because i was getting to think about exhaust and lowering. one of my problems is idk what all these bushings and stuff id need to replace. i know basic replacements such as oil, radiator fluid, and blinker light fluid ;)

DD is Daily Driver. Keep your current car as is, keep it reliable. So, when you get a GSX/TSi, you will have a car to drive around, cause once you get "boost disease", there is no cure. The more you mod and upgrade, you will need a car to drive while the other is down for upgrades.

i want to make this car somewhat fast at least. that plan sounds good but i wont be buying another car anytime soon. what should i do to this stock automatic car till i get enough turbo parts? i mean i can always keep the turbo and its parts for a future car

Not much you can do to make these much more powerful beyond Turbo. That is why they have suggested saving the money and getting a second one. The amount you will pay in parts to turbo it will equal the cost of an actual turbo car. The only thing it will save you is that you will have a car that is non-turbo to the insurance company. I am sure the insurance for you on a Turbo car in Cali will be quite expensive.

Well if i was you the only thing i would do to your car being a n/t is just save your money and only do your maintenance on it make it last you forever. I've been in your shoe's and belive me its easier to just buy a tsi/gsx.

Well remember maintenance first. I got a injen intake, obx header, 2.5 inch exhaust with no cat and a vibrant performance muffler, new plugs and wires, and a hacked aircan and to be honest it didnt really do that much. Turbo is the way to go. Im saving for either a tsi or a z32 (but leaning more toward the tsi :thumb:) right now. Take my advice and save your money.

such a good thread haha very fun to read. Fixes this car and sell it for twice the price you picked it up 4,,, then go get that turbo car you really want like a gsx or tsi. i just hit a guy up about a 1991 gsx just needs a clutch, he want 650$ or best offer. and i have the clutch 4 it in my shop. fyi he is down the street from u

There's a reason the performance model of this car came turboed. Nothing else will make any real power.

To turbo your car and get any decent power out of it you'll end up tearing apart the engine to replace the pistons. The non utrbo cars have different pistons than the turbo cars. So for hte price of an engine rebuild, plus the money spent on all hte parts to make your car turbo, you could have bought a factory turbo'd car.

Keep your car stock, use it for a daily driver and do maintenance on it.

91 NT talon was my first car. It was purple LOL:p

As far as keeping it a NT car, its a good idea in my book. It got great gas mileage and you also don't have a job. Remember, the more moving parts a car has (turbo and supporting mods) the more parts can break. The fact that you car is more basic in nature is a good start for you.

I started with maintence, all the basics:
-timing belt
-pulley
-water pump
-spark plug
-spark plug wires
-Theres a whole lot more.

next step I got a KN filter for the intake, hard intake pipe and couplers. I later got a SS header from obx racing, and a catback exhaust from Pacesetter. I also got a obx test pipe to fit the rest.

It sounded great, got great gas mileage. The only reason I upgraded was because I live in New Jersey, and the weather here sucks so I wanted an AWD. Dont get me wrong, the forced induction makes a huge difference.

goodluck
