first gst

hi..i was wondering what i should check and look at before i buy a 98 eclipse gst it has 105,000 miles and i was just wondering if there is something i should check before buying that mmight be a major problem later on. thanks

Pretty much check the whole car over like you usually should do when buying a car...

I would look for rust spots. The only ones I know of for a 2g are any underbody/suspension pieces and the tops of the front shock towers.

Modded vs. stock is another thing to take into account. There are some people who know how to mod a car right and then there are others who don't. If you don't know much about these cars, then I would suggest reading some more before buying it. A reason to buy stock is so you can build it exactly the way you want to. A reason to buy modded is so that it's already built up. It's all in your preference.

And I would highly recommend bringing a compression tester when you go.

well i already drove it and it seemed to be fine..but i just was wondering if i should have him take it in for an inspection so i can see if the compression is fine and if there is shaft pay in the turbo and all that u kno..

I would suggest taking it to a trusted mechanic. Every car I have been serious about looking into I have brought to a mechanic and explained the situation to them. "I can only see so much and I only know so much, but am looking into purchasing this car. Can you look it over and tell me what would need replaced/fixed and what might be a problem in the near future?" It shouldn't cost more than $20 for them to do this either. It's also nice because they will put it up on a lift so you can see how everything under the car looks.

definitely check under the car. My car's shell looks really good but the exhaust and a few suspension parts are really rusty.

im gunna pay him 4 thousand.

the car has 105000 on it and it has a catback exhaust, hks bov, k&n , hks bov, turbo timer, boost controller and thats bought it, he said he never uses the boost controller ### he knows its on a stock turbo and he dont want to blow it..other than that the car is hella clean in and out. so tomrow should i just have him meet me at a shop to have it checked out or ###..make him pay for it or me.

If you're talking about who should pay for the shop to check it out, it will be you. The seller could care less what the shop thinks about the car. You're the one who wants a professional opinion on the car and for them to tell you what is wrong right now with it and what could be a problem shortly down the road.

yea its a pretty good deal thats why i want to buy it.
alright well i guess ill have that done tomorow then.
but i heard the main things that happen to gst's are the belts go bad and the fuel filters are bad.

people tell me DSM's are notorious for transmission problems, i haven't ran into any yet and neither have my friends..but we'll see.

I just bought my 99 gst for 6 grand!!! Its super clean with like no mods, just a blow off valve, im havning it checked out though
