Hey DSM forums. I recently came from the 240SX scene, and I found a killer deal on a GST, after my 240 blew, that I couldn't pass up.

So here's some questions.

The previous owner put KYB GR shocks with skunk2 sleeve coilovers (even though they're really not). It is a rough ride. So I'm looking to replace them with either true coilovers or something a little softer. I was thinking Megan Racing coils, I know they're not well known and most ppl hate them, but in the 240 world lots of ppl run them without problems.
But what coils or shock setup would you guys recommend.
I want something lower but still a smooth ride, kinda close to stock but still a little stiffer.

Next, my biggest issue. I have a sunroof and when I go over bumps the sunroof seems to jump up and down, it doesn't leak, but I can push it up. Do i just need a new track for the sunroof? Or what? The sunroof works perfect. But Just moves, idk why LOL

Lastly, I think it may be due to the suspension set up, but when I peel out the front wheels tend to hop more so then actually spin. Ball joints? Crappy supension set up? LOL. I know there's no LSD so its just the right one but it hops...

My GST has the common DSM rust on the shock tower, which is getting taken care of immediately.

Well hello DSM forums again and I'm sure I'll be able to contribute seeings how I have lots of car mechanic knowledge just gotta learn DSMs LOL

The wheel hop is common for the GS-T due to the soft suspension combined with a heavy foot. For sure the current setup is not even close to helping solve the issue.

A better suspension package (Ground Control on Konis), poly bushings...complete kit, suspension and motor mounts (ES or Prothane) and an LSD would do wonders for solving that.

Also, if it has been "wheel-hopped" quite a bit you would want to check the tranny mount (really all 4 mounts) as it will cause the motor and tranny to excessively flop around and can potentially break tranny housings and axles.

yeah, my sunroof does the same thing. i think it actually has a tab on both sides that are broken off that hold the window down to the track. you can try and contact mitsubishi graveyard and see if they have a good used one to swap out.

Hmm... I've been throught 3 Eclipse's and they all did/does it. Does it jump up a lot or just a little bit? I know when I close the door it'll jump up, but only like 1/4" or so and closes back tight. I figure this is just common and all DSM's do it.

:dsm:

Yeah I did a lot of research after posting this and found all this out :thumb:

AS for the sunroof. When I'm running 60+ the front tends to move up, idk if that means anything. But if i go over any bump i hear it bounce up and down. Also whenever someone closes the passenger door I can see it raise up about a 1/4" or so cause of pressure. Oh well it doesn't leak so I'm not gonna mess with it.

Are there 3 screws on each side of the rail from the inside? If not they are gone from rattling out. I've replaced them a few times. My sunroof still pops up in the back when the doors close even w/ the screws tight. Always has always will. As for the rails that mount to the car, you might need to look at it from above w/ the top all the way back. It sounds like the whole rail & roof want to come off on your car from the front of the sunroof. Better be careful it doesn't peel it back & rip off at high speeds and f it all up & not to mention the car behind you.
I'll look at mine & snap some pics when i go for a drive later for you to compare.
