Been lurking these boards for a few weeks and finally decided to post about the 1G Eclipse I'm getting.

The car is a clean Black 93 Elipse GS-T, manual tranny with 75K miles. Only 2 owners (an older gentleman, and my friends younger sister) and it's never been modified or driven really hard. The timing belt was never replaced, and you all know what that means . Oh yeah, did I mention I'm only paying $400 for it :D

Now to the questions. I know that the timing belt went and that there's damage to the valves and head. I plan to make this a Project Car for me to learn on, so I am going to be doing all the work myself (or at least as much as possible, I have quite a bit of experience from working on my 02 WRX). When I pull the head, what else should I look for, and what should I expect to replace/restore while I'm in there. My plan is to get the car up and running well before I start doing any mods.

Any help is appreciated

look for battle wounds to the pistion tops and the deck of the head. bent valves, fry'd vavle guides. possible shrapnel in the oil.

I would also check your timing belt tensioner. You shouldnt be able to compress it by hand. If it's weak it will just throw the timing belt again.
