filter idea

Today i got bored and decided to make my box filter breath a ton better ,check this out. I know somebody already did this, but i like the cleaner look.
PS: ya i Know i should get a cone filter but this is what i have and it's not that bad this way

Nothing, the filter is really snug in there and it wouldn't fall out unless you rolled the car

eff cold air intakes. Turbocharged cars dont need that stuff. Colder air is more dense but turbocharged cars make the air denser anyhow by compressing it, also they have an intercooler for that.. Cold air intakes on turbo cars = useless (at least in my opinion).

better set ups in my opinion would use no intake piping at all to the filter, this has been proven to produce more horsepower in turbo cars..however, for non-drag strictly applications, we tend to want to keep a filter on there just in case.

Who even uses cold air intakes in turbocharged dsms?.. please find me a picture of one on or for a 4g63-t.

CAI on a turbocharged car is completely useless. As soon as that cool air hits the turbo, it's gonna be heated right back up again. The intercooler is there for a reason, and will do a much better job than a CAI.

Your opinion doesn't seem to realize that degrees are degrees. Five less at intake are five more the turbo has to put in, or five more of a head-start. The air coming out of most turbochargers is already hot enough to boil water. Everything helps.

WHAT? All of you who are saying cold air intakes on turbo cars are useless need to do a little thinking. I will list a few advantages for you.

Less stress on the turbo for the same air massflow.

Less heat soak on your intercooler.

Lower intake temps.

Higher boost without detonation.

yada yada yada.

Please if you are going to state things like this do a little thinking. seriously.

I'm not going to get into the debate of whether a cold air intake makes a difference on a turbocharged car.

I will add however that the Air Inlet Temperature sensor is located in the Mass Airflow Sensor, and that the factory computer monitors the temperature of the incoming air and modifies the timing advance accordingly. So if the computer is seeing high inlet temperatures then it is retarding timing and you are losing power.

So in other words, it doesn't matter to the engine what the inlet temperature is, but it does matter to the computer controlling the engine

yeah CAI is great and all.. but im looking at those pics.. and wouldnt the intake being right there in front of the tire just eat up water when it rains.. i mean go through a big puddle and its gulping water. Can anyone say hydrolock?

dito unless you live where it doesn't rain you have to either not drive you car or put a bag or something over the intake. this is the reason most people with turbo car don't do it since the intake on a turbo car is sucking in a ton more air that a N/A car and the chance of it sucking up water is so much more

AEM has bypass valve for just this puropse. If the filter starts sucking water, it draws the air in from the bypss and not the cai filter.

If you read the fine print about the AEM Bypass Valve, it says it's not for Turbo Cars Thank for all the Positive feedback, this thread is getting so off topic . if anybodys got a filter mod that they want to show. post it up

I agree 100%, I lost 5-8 degrees by going CAI (verified by the Link of course). Depends on weather too, but anything is better then muggy engine air.

Maybe try things instead of speculating on whether they will work or not. Colder intake air results in power. Be it a normally aspirated car or a forced induction application. Why do you think guys have been running without the passenger side headlight for so long. So you can check out the brand name on their filter?
