It is a side note: Rally art make shifter for 1G cars? WTF
Otherwise, I am really interested! :thumb:
sorry to hackjack your thread. :coy:

no it doesn't. I don't think any aftermarket shifters have stoppers. Mine doesn't either but I have not had a problem with overshifting or anything like that. Do you want a stopper?

^ I realize that. However if you want a stopper you can get someone to weld on one like the OEM shifter. And, also, my short shifter didn't really seem to shorten the throw of the shifter and that one looks like the same design. I think what they did was just copied the OEM piece without making any changes to the pivot point or anything. Just a warning before you buy one.

The stopper is built in...i put a Short throw on my 2g, and its set up where it hits the whole housing of the shifter...so you cant tear out a gear. Just switch it out with the OEM one and you will be fine. good luck.

the shifter on my 2g had to pieces and theother one changed the pivot point from the stock location so that it was shorter so im assuming that this one has two pieces for the same reason but i would just have to buy it and look at it all to see how it goes together.
but good luck

no there is no stopper on the 1G aftermarket shifters. and, from my experience the short shifter does not shorten the throw, but you are welcome to try it out for yourself.

Do they make like a B&M short shifter for the 1G Eclipses? I know they have cheap ones on ebay but I've heard there crap :notgood: . What do you guys think?
Will

No, they don't. B&M just looked at me funny when I asked for one at their booth during MOD'05.

Megan may bring out a 1G short shifter, but I'm still waiting for the new one to re-fit on my '90... which is completely different from 91+. :b

I believe in VFAQ or the 1000 already answered DSM questions, there's a link to a guy that makes 1G short shifters. Try there.

Defiant, the problem is that the 90 shifter is completely different from the 91+. It's all drop-forged and beefy... looks like you could use it to punch holes in sheet metal.

The pivot bushings are shorter, the bottom arm is longer, the stops are in different places, the bushings are bigger... after '90, they completely redesigned it.

Fortunately, I came into posession of a spare '90 shifter assembly (including cables). This is going to be remanded into Steve's custody over at Megan Racing, so they have a reference to work from. Get all the throws and (hopefully) the stops right, and get a professionally mass-produced short shifter for the 90 year out finally. :D Dunno how long it will take them to get it done though, once I get it over to them.

I have a knob on mine that shortens the hieght but not the length of the shift. My buddy has a B&M in his civic :notgood: and all you have to do is flick your wrist to shift. I love that shifter :thumb:

ive boughten short shifts for plenty of my cars, till 5-6 years ago when i decided to cut the shifter in my mx6, ive been cuttin the shifting in all my cars since, no once have i had any problems, yes there are rumors floating around that if u cut the shifter you can reak havoc on your transmission?, i havent seen such a thing yet, untill i actually see something that messes up my shifting or tranny from cuttin the shifter then i will stop, but untill then my hacksaw stays.

DSM shifters have internal bumpstops... you CAN cut them down, the only down side is an increased effort to shift and possible mis-shifts due to it. So long as you don't cut the bumpstops away, your tranny will be fine.

That's what the bumpstops are there for. To keep you from overextending. You *can* overextend on the stock '90 shifter if your shifter cables aren't adjusted properly, but that's rare.
Be warned though, none of the short-shifter kits I've seen so far have the bumpstops, so it would be possible to overextend if you forced them.

Also please note that I don't own a 2G, and haven't had the opportunity to take a closer look at their shifter to see if the stops are there. Only one I can vouch for having bumpstops is the 1990 OEM shifter. :)

Hey guys. I recently got my Fidanza Short Shifter in and I am in the process of installing it but I am running into a problem. Im actually wondering if i was shorted a set of bushings/bearings from Fidanza. As you can see from the pics, the unit won't fit with the bushings, at all. Its like the hole in the shifter itself was drilled too small or something. And as you can see, the shifter slops around way too much w/ no bushings, so something is needed. So if anyone has installed this shifter, and ran into this problem please help me out.
Thank you, Dan.
