Fidanza short shifter 1G & 2G [Merged 3-7]

Mike you have me confused. I had the impression you were using a combination of stock parts and had not installed the fidanza for fear of damage to the forks. What dd I say that you responded with vulgarity? I believe I said I guess I will need to have a custom fab job done. Heck I would love to use the Fidanza if it is safe. What about using the stock stop like the one guy did? I know nothing of shifters and was hoping for a nice beefy B&M to be available.
So you would recommend the Fidanza? Doesn't it come with 2 settings, 35% and 50% shorter? If so what one are you using? Can the stock stop be used? Thanks for your help! Mark

I made this thread after I installed the shifter. After the fact that it was installed I noticed there wasnt a stop. However I've been drving my car normal and sometimes spirited and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. However I do intend to make a stop kinda like the factory one, but I need a vice to stick it in to drill and tap it. I wasnt trying to be vulgar, thats just a form of speech here in Missouri, :p "I didnt understand your question" The best way I think to make a stop on the fidanza would be to drill it at a point where its almost gonna hit the sides, tap is out and install a bolt with rubber hose covering it,so that it should hit the shifter base. This would be alot for the most part as the stocker. The Fidanza is not selectable its set at 40% shorter, or so it says.

Thanks Mike, nice to know that it is an option for me. The B&M for te 2g's has a 35% and 50% setting but 40% sounds good. Does it shift quicker?

which one is better ? mach v sells the fidanza and diamondstar motorsports sells the pilot..

fidanza is almost $20 cheaper to

just from what i heard not to bash or anything but i've heard bad thing from mach v mostly with customer service and shipping of parts i've have about 3 people go threw them so just a fyi man i would try slowboy or road race i've done biz with both of them personally and never had a prob

What do you 2g guys think of them, are they worth the money? Any known problems? Plus minus, just wanting a little feedback on them.

My best advice to you is go with a b&m short shifter or the e-bay replica that I went with. When I first thought of which brand to go with, everyone, at least on this site, agreed to go the b+m route. The real b&m shifter can run you close to 150 dollars. The replica off ebay is 50, the only drawback of the replica is of course the brand name, but the threading and diameter of the e-bay shifter is different than the b&m and stock shift knob (probably for legal reasons, whatever). I havent heard any talk of fidanza, and why get a second rate shifter when you can get the best for a lower price. Stay away from the Pacesetter and OBX shifters too, and other non-b&m replicas.

By the way, installation is easy. The e-bay clone comes with a knob. And when you get and install your new shifter, remember to use locktite and dont lose your e-clip. If you dont like the knob that comes with the e-bay clone, like me, goto autozone or order a fancy razo one that screws on.

Ya.. go with the real b&m for sure.. i am very impressed with mine. and like he said.. dont lose the E-Clip... but if you do.. go to napa.. they have bunches..

Well I finally decided to try to install my Fidanza short throw shifter on my 1993 Talon. It was pretty easy to get the old shifter out, and it was easy to get the black piece of the Fidanza installed, but the actuall shifter rod wouldn't fit on the black piece using the stock bushing, the inside diameter of the hole that goes on the black piece is too small. (I really wish I knew what that black piece is called.). Then the actuall shifter linkage wouldn't fit on the bottom part of the shifter rod.

Also I know it's been mentioned before, but the shifter doesn't have a stopper which is pretty scary, so tommorow I'll be switching back to my stock shifter and trying to pawn the Fidanza one off on someone.

In the end, my personal opinion is that it was a bad buy.

I returned mine to Summit for a refund. www.vfaq.com has instructions for the 1g cars to do-it-yourself. I haven't tried though, I guess not that important right now. mark

i had the same problems you did, it took some modification to make it fit in there. it could have been better money spent somewhere else but so far i'm happy with it

thanks as well i was thinking of buying the shifter but down want to go through the hassel. is there any other companies that make a short throw that is more of a hassel free design? or just stick with the underhood shifter kit and the washers to replace the rubber gromets.

Odd, I installed a Fidanza in my 90 talon NT, it had the 92 driveline and all in it and I had no problems with the shifter. Install took about 30 mins and the shifting was dramatically shorter.

Yes I read your posts when I searched for information on the Fidanza. This is just how it happened for me.

As for a different shifter, I've read that B&M makes a good one, but other than that I know nothing about it.

are you sure b&m makes a short shifter for the 1g? i thought they only made one for the 2g?

I wish B&M made one for the 1g. Thats a short shifter i would definitly pay some money for. Do you think if we got enough people to bug em we could get them to do it? or has this already been a failed attempt. i know the 2g ones go for about 150 but iw ould even be willing to pay for upwards of $200 if B&M made one.

I have the findanza shifter, symborski kit and underhood bushings and had no problems with the install. The shift is way shorter and the symborski kit is a little hard to get used to, it actually clacks into place when you shift, loud and pretty cool.

I have heard bad things about the fidanza short shifter for a 1g. Unfortunately I didn't read about them untill I ordered one for my 2g. Does anyone have any feedback on the fidanza shifter for the 2g? :(
