I am in Texas visiting my dad. I decided I would let my brother use my car for the time I am down here so it isn't sitting at my house. Well long story short car is over heating at idle on a warm day. I have my fans mounted right up to the radiator and my primary one has already fell off. I want to to make a shroud but aluminum is to much and I don't like the look to much. So I decided to make a fiberglass one.

Has anyone done this yet. I searched but found no topic. It's hard to find a cheap shroud for the 420a. And I don't want to spend over $100 so I figured make it custom and one of a kind.

I'll start on it once I get back to Tennessee and get Taxes back.

Any pointers?

Making a shroud doesn't sound that much different from making a speaker box. In other words:

Make a wood frame (square end for where the radiator would be and round where the fan would go)
Cover it with aluminum foil so the 'glass won't stick
Staple some stretchy fabric over it to have a basic shape
Cover fabric on the outside with fiberglass cloth and resin (do couple of layers, about three around the edges)
After it all sets, remove the wood framework
Trim the edges, test-fit it, add some mounting brackets, sand everything smooth, maybe paint it

All together would cost about $50 for resin and cloth, maybe less. Don't have to use good wood, just something that holds together (since it will be removed anyway).

Most auto part stores have resin and fiberglass cloth. From what i've seen around here a gallon of resin w/hardener is about $50, a sheet of cloth is about $5 and you will probably need two sheets (they are only about 8 square feet each) Other then that all i can say is look on the internet.
