1G FFOFH Modification?

Hey guys and gals, I was going through all of the parts I had ordered for both of my DSM's and found what I am pretty sure is a FFOFH, no longer available, from what I can tell. I am needing a fresh oil feed for the Holset and wonder what your thoughts are on modifying the housing by drilling a hole in the right spot and tapping it for the turbo feed. I really didn't even know I had it, I thought I had a normal 1g OFH but, well just look at the pictures and you will see where I am pointing to open up the port and tap it.
Don't hold back, tell me I am crazy and don't touch it or tell me what you think, good or bad.

People make holes for added sensors and feed/returns all the time just as long as its not cracked when drilling or over tighten it will be fine and of course its the filtered side aswel of the oil,

Might as well use what you got and its new, remove everything and clean it well after as you know to do so.

Also dont the 1G units come with an external cooler? What you going to do about the oil cooler side of things?

You could do that, but I dont know if theres enough thickness in that area to tap it safely, you could weld an aluminum fitting in there after drilling it out though.

Bobby, yes they come with an air or water cooler, so I don't know yet what I am going to do there.
Matt, thanks for that info. I guess if I drill and tap it and crack it, I could go ahead and just have a fitting welded in. I am open to suggestions for sure.
I have always ran the coolers for these motors but wondered how many people are not running a cooler at all.

Thats the correct spot to drill and tap for a feed line/sensor. Its been done there for ages so you should have no worries. This is what FFWD used to sell.

Unfortunately I can not say if a oil cooler was ran. These pictures came from the link posted above the pictures, it was another DSMTUNERS thread on OFHs. These are also no my pictures, can not take credit for them.

My understanding is that a universal oil cooler (sandwich plate) would need to be used if an oil cooler set up was wanted.

The spot cast "E" is technically pre-filter IIRC, so unless you run an inline turbo filter you'd risk possible contamination. If you run it in the spot cast "I" it's post filter, clean oil.

FWIW I run a ffofh on mine, ported, and previously had an external oil cooler with thermostat. I noticed my oil temps wouldnt get up to temp unless I was on a long drive (1hr+) or hot lapping at the track. Once I took the cooler out, it gets to temp quicker and still maintains a stable temp, even when racing. Mine runs DD duty, street track stuff, and my turbo is fed off the "I" port, going to a manifold with all sensors inline, pic for reference.

I had seen your "manifold" for oil in another thread and it is pretty cool. It doesn't effect pressure at all?

doesn't seem to, i've checked pressure previously right at the "I" port with a mechanical gauge and its within 2 PSI of my current readings, so i dont think its affecting much. this is also nice because pressure is read after essentially all major impedances, so im seeing what oil pressure everything "should" be getting (mains, turbo, etc.).
