So i was taking off the exhaust manifold and one of my studs broke off and it's just chilling inside the hole. It's the very far bottom left stud and i tried tapping it and drilling it then easy outing it but the easy out broke off inside the hollow drilled stud but now it's blocked up so if i just put some "Liquid steel" in there and seal it and put the exhause manifold on tight and snug i shouldn't have any problems right? Cause i don't have the time to take off the whole head.

Worst comes to worst i will have a slight leak am i right?

i would say do it the right way but if your gonna quick fix it how much bite do u have in the whole screw a stud in and screw a nut on might be long but at least you will have a temp full seal

next time leave a better explanation you will get more people to look at your post

If it was me i would try as hard as possible to get it out, but dont go as far as taking the head off for one exhaust bolt. Mine has one snapped off frome the previous owner also. You should go buy new one so next time you have to take the manifold off you wont have this problem

Here is a better description of my problem.

I was taking me exhaust manifold off and i was taking the bolts off and on my far bottom left stud, it snapped. The side of the stud that snapped off is still in the motor side of the hole. It snapped off about 3mm inside the hole so i tried tapping it and then drilling the stud hollow so that i can put an easy out in the middle and twist it out. Well in the process of twisting the easy out, the easy out snapped also. So the whole is clogged up with a little crack of an opening in there around the easy out. Since i don't have the time to take off the whole head for one bolt, i'm going to seal that crack of gap in the stud with liquid steel epoxy puddy and then put on my gasket and exhaust manifold nice and snug and test it out. This would work would it not? and what's the worst that could happen?

thanks in advance

The worst that could happen is that you'd keep blowing exhaust manifold gaskets (if you don't have a 2 layer steel one) or keep getting exhaust leaks in that spot. Not saying that's going to happen but it could. Other than taking it to a machine shop and getting them to do it right you could try carefully drilling out the material and using a helicoil thread repair kit. I don't know if they make them to match our exhaust studs and it's a royal PITA to drill out hardened steel like the easy out is made of. I wouldn't fill it though, that's just pointless and it'll make things harder later on down the road when you actually get it fixed. Whatever you decide, good luck.

Well i kinda have to fill it in with my "Tech Steel" cause otherwise it would definatley leak. and plus i'm only going to have it like that for a couple of months and after if 1 gasket goes i'll get a 2layer metal. But only for a couple months it will be like that and then i'm pulling the motor out to do a rebuild and stroke and bore it out so i think it's what i have to do.

I cant remember the name of the company but they make a copper exhaust mani gasket with raised rings that help seal around the exh ports on the head and according to them they stated it sealed on a car missing two studs side by side. Ill try to find the post I saw it in :)

EDIT* heres the link looks worthy and its reasonably priced

:confused:It's a bolt hole. There's also a bolt hole in the gasket and manifold, are you going to fill those too? Since there's no gasket material or manifold flange material making contact with that spot there's nothing to seal. The sealing area/material is around that hole. Filling the hole would not help the gasket seal. It would be an excecise in futility . I'm not trying to argue with you or anything I'd just hate for you to do something now that would make it harder for you down the road. But I guess if you're going to have a machine shop fix it later they wouldn't have any more of a problem with the tech steel than the broken stud and broken easy out. F### it, grab that tech steel and go ape s### :hellyeah:

Thanks RUSH. That's really helpful. That's sweet that they make those gaskets. And XSBOOST, i understand what you are saying now, the only problem i can see is that i don't know how i'm going to make the exhaust manifold snug with that bottom left stud missing.

Alright monk and jrhoner. Thanks for the tips. I'm going to just seal off the gap in the drilled bolt and then i have a brand new exhaust manifold so i'm going to slap the exhaust manifold on and check for leaks.

yeah Mork
Well what happened was that drilled the stud hollow and leave the threads on and then tried to easy out it and then the easy out snapped off inside. So there's a little bit of space betweenthe easy out cause it's square so i'm going to seal it with epoxy puddy "Tech Steel". But this is only temporay till i rebuild the whole motor.
