I recently got a Evo III engine with the tranny, i was told the transmission is a lil different than the stock tranny my 95 GsX came with. Can anyone tell me if its the same or is something different about it.

thanks for the final gear info, and as far as having to change the rear diff i guess i better ask the person i got it from, he's been running this set-up for over a year.

thanks for pointing that out, cause i don't want my center diff to go kaBoom:cry:

I had purchased an EVO 1 trans from someone in Wisconsin, didnt know it until the car was almost put all the way back together, Quasimondo is right, you will need to get the gears from an EVO III in order to run that trans, and I dont know about you but EV0 1 rear end gears were basically non-existant when i tried to look for them.

Are the evo 3 trans that much better than the stock trans? Is it worth doing ? I'm sure there are still evo 3 diff because alot of people run those cars in europe.

If you find any and decide to order one lemme know i'll split the shipping cost with ya

so all you need is a match rear end ? I wouldn't think parts are that hard to find for an evo 3 it seems as if that would be a cheaper solution than built tranny but what do iknow

I was talking on the phone today a guy has the same set up i do (Evo III engine and tranny) and he didn't change the diff, he has been driving it for 7 months and hasn't had any problems with the center diff blowing up. So i dunno what to think.

It's probably not an Evo3 trans he has in there, then. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not an Evo3 engine under the hood, either. Lots of folks will try to sell you an Evo engine when it's really a 2G motor with some Armor-All on the wires and hoses.

Well i know the motor and trans i have is from a Evo III- a friend of mine in sasabo Japan shipped it over for my cousin and then it was given to me. I was just curious to know how to tell the difference visually. But now my friend is stationed in the states so i don't have any contacts to find this rear diff i am gonna be looking for.

thanks everyone for the replies :dsm:

Bingo, I can name off at least 3 people here locally that THOUGHT they were running an EvoIII motor ROFL

Sorry to bring back such an old forum, but I am looking into getting a new transmission as mine just bit the dust. The person I am looking to buy it off of stated that the engine/transmission came out of an Evo in Canada (what the shop told him when he bought it). My question is, how can I find out if it is REALLY an Evo transmission, because I understand that it will not work with my 90 GSX without a new rear diff. thanks in advance
