Okay, I was thinking about rebuilding my transmission, but it looks like an EVO transmission will fit in just fine. In fact, after a little bit of research, it looks like almost any EVO III part will fit a GS-T.

So, I wanted to know if this is true or not. (At least as far as the transmission.)

And, I was wondering if the EVO's 2.4 would fit in place of my 2.0 longblock. If I need to do both at once or not at all, let me know.

I've tried researching about a stonger alternative for a tranny and has anyone used a EVO3 tranny in a 1g? What mods are required to do this? I know the evo gears and shafts are a tad bit beefier and that is why i was wondering.

the rear end is different ratio 3.909. dsm is 3.54. rear casing is not same so you have to build the rear end with 3.9 gears is 1g or 2g housing. the t-case for evo 1-3 is same as 98-99 dsm ratio.

Evo 1-9 all come standard with 2.0liter stock block but wif different bore and compression piston.
FYI,evo 3 has higher final drive ratio compare to the evo1 and 2.

I have owned two early evos. have opened several early evo trannies. they are all same gear ratios 1-3, including final drive at 3.909. changes were made to syncro and shift forks. lsd was optional.

Evo I-III rear diffs are the same, the problem arises with the final drive in the Evo III gearbox which is different to the Evo I-II. Because of this the reduction ratio in the Evo III transfer box was changed to match the rear diff. Evo I-II transfer ratio is 1.090 (24/22) and Evo III ratio is 1.074 (29/27).
So if you want to use the Evo III gearbox you need the Evo III transfer box too.

The Evo I gearbox was fitted with a double syncromesh on 2nd gear to cope with the harsh gear changes from 1st to 2nd.

On the Evo II there were changes made to the transmission with 1st and 2nd gear ratio’s now being 2.750 on first and 1.684 in second. All the other ratio’s stayed the same as the evo 1 had. Third and forth gear gained double coned syncro’s to cope with the harsh gear changes.

On the evo III there were more changes with syncro’s to help cope with the harsh gear changes. 1st and 2nd gear ratio’s were changed as well as the final drive ratio.

Ratios are as follows:

Evo1
1st 2.571
2nd 1.600
3rd 1.160
4th 0.862
5th 0.617
Reverse 3.166
Final Ratio 5.433

Evo 2
1st 2.750
2nd 1.684
3rd 1.160
4th 0.862
5th 0.617
Reverse 3.166
Final Ratio 5.433

Evo 3
1st 2.750
2nd 1.684
3rd 1.160
4th 0.862
5th 0.617
Reverse 3.166
Final Ratio 5.358

Andy, I dont know where the info you have comes from. From what I have seen the ratios are all the same. I have an evo 1 box here open and just checked first and second and they are 2.76 (36/13) and 1.684 (32/19). cant confirm final drive change, dont have evo 3 box apart to do tooth count, but if that part id true that would be good for usa, as 1.074 is easier to come by then the 1.090 transfer. 1.074 was used from 89-97, 1.090 was used only for 98-99 cars here. either way you do need 3.909 rear end
