Hey guys i have a 1992 mitsu gsx 5 speed with about 500whp and this is the second time i broke my trans ..about a month ago i sheared off 3rd gear and about a year and a half ago i sheared off 4th gear so i'm pretty much screwed i talked to a few of the top tranny builders for dsm's and they told me at 500whp there's really nothing you can do to prevent this from happening only run thick fluid such as stright redline shock proof..my question is are the evo III gears any stronger cause i was told the intemedite shaft from a evo III offers no strength advantage and the other evo III gears like 1st ,3rd and 4th have some gearing advantages but they will not prevent this from happening ..is it worth it to me to replace my stock oem gears and go with evo III stuff what advantage will i have if i go with the evo III 1st gear and input shaft ..i know it's 10% bigger will that help my 60 foot or make it worst ..is the evo III input shaft the same size and will it fit in my clutch i already have in my car ?..i have the PTT twin disk...i'm looking for people who have the evo III gears in there trans to give me some info on this ..i'm saving up and getting my trans totally redone very soon ..thanks alot :thumb:

tranny fluid used in the car was straight redline MT-90
trans that broke a month ago broke while i was tuning..i was in 3rd doing a pull with race gas c116 28psi dsmlink....i drove 1 hour to the track pulled over drained my pump gas put in c116 and on the second pull it just broke :( didnt happen on a shift or anything just while in gear ..both times

both times my trans broke it was a built and not a stocker

Evo III: 1st gear is taller, but the 3rd and 4th gears are shorter. That's all I can tell you, check with this guy (http://www.jackstransmissions.com) He built my tranny with those gears, but I haven't driven my car yet, still need some IC piping done. Anyway, e-mail him show him this thread, maybe call him. He's a cool guy, I bet he'll help you out.

EDIT: Here I found this: http://www.jackstransmissions.com/d...n.php?osCsid=7ab6e28f15fafd0233a3fe953bfe9dcc

This is a quote "The EVO III 1st 3rd, 4th and 5th gears are the strongest helical units with the coolest ratios on the market!" It's in a first paragraph.

I hope this helps a little. Good luck!!!

What most people do not realize is the fact that you can go to some jdm import places and get a 95-99 4g63t transmissions which are in reality a true evo 3 transmission that has double synchros as well as all the evo 3 gearing. Which you can pick up for 500 including shipping and transfer case. That tranny has most of the components that SOME FAMOUS dsm tranny rebuilders use. I have a friend of mine that puts down 700hp on a 2.3stroker motor with a stock jdm evo 3 transmission and has used this same transmission pass after pass and daily drives it.

No problem, there was only one place I found that had these transmissions in stock and they do not pass it off as an 2nd gen or 1st gen tranny but rather a evo 3 tranny and you have to specify that an evo 3 tranny is the one you want, and they will tell that it will not work and bla bla. You will have to swap out the ring and pinion to make it work or get a rear end from an evo 3 and the place that has all of this jdmtigerjapanese.com. Basically if you can make it work you will have a one hell of a tranny and for the price sure beats a shep or tre tranny. Just look up how much their trannies with evo 3 internals cost

anyone have mitsu part #s for evo III awd trans parts? I would like to try and order from the dealer :)

If you look really hard there are some pages in the UK that have the evo 3 part numbers for the awd transmission
