Evo 8 ECU In 2g Works!!

Agreed, im pretty dam sure its phantom knock since that much real knock would of blown up my motor long ago haha.

Try changing your low knock multiplier from 16 to 22.

I see that you end up ramping up to 30 which is probably okay but I feel more comfortable with less sensitivity down low where a few missed counts wont hurt anything and more sensitivity up top where it is more important and I've never had a problem with false knock. My settings are fairly close together.

I don't think there is a huge difference between 26 and 30 but I would just consider dropping your top multiplier down a little bit. If you find what you're sure is phantom knock then just raise it back up.

I tuned mine by running about 8 gallons of race gas and logging every minute of driving. I just slowly turned the multipliers up until I stopped seeing knock. I also reverted to a stock timing map for that time.

It was an expensive thing to do but worth it.

My multiplier settings are relatively conservative/low They are as follow

Ill probably end up just raising these a bit tonight. Adjusted my RPM VE table and now its withing +-5 load compared to my Maf rom. I will also be trying out Livamap tonight and see how it works for me.

Well had a bad day at the track. No traction FTL. And i can't get the livemap rom to work on the car, ive been trying to figure it out but i haven't had much time with finals just days away.

Yeah im really considering that, spinning all the way down the track is no fun. Oh well at least logs and trap's show im making the same if not more power than before with my SD tune.

Well, It finally happened.

I was in the middle of a second gear pull yesterday. At around 6k RPM, it looks like the bolts between the intake manifold and the block pulled out, and kaboom...byebye stock motor :(

It was a 7-bolt with > 90k on it, pushing probably around 400hp at the crank, so I was semi-prepared for it. Now I'm trying to decided between doing a 6-bolt swap or going with a fully built setup.

What ROM are people running for 6-bolt setups?

Same rom, there isn't a difference except with timing really, even then it isn't a big difference. Just make sure you don't use the 1g knock sensor. Might as well go with an evo knock sensor but at least keep the one from your 2g motor.

Wasn't there some difference with the crankshaft positioning sensor between the 6 bolt and the 7 bolt?

I used the guide on Magnus motorsports site to put a 6 bolt in my '97. The one page tells how to build the harness for the 1st gen. CAS.

<<<<<Running 9653 in a '97 with 6 bolt swap.

Like already said just use the cam harness that RRE sells or make the one on the magnus site to swap a 6bolt into a 7bolt and you should be fine. Im running a 6bolt bottom end with my evo ecu and everythings straight, just remember to swap over everything from the 7bolt that you need.

hey quick question, im not to electronic wiring savy and i tried to hook up the stutter box a week ago to fid out that the cruise control switch is broken. now i cant find anyone with one and the people i know that have it broke there trying to take it out. so i was wondering is there away i can tap it into the top clutch switch and still be able to use nlts ? thnx in advance

if you are referring to the smaller switch at the top of the clutch pedal arm with a black and black/green (or is it red) wire hooked up to it..... yes you can. should just need to splice into the wire with the stripe on it. double check to make sure it works correctly with a mulit meter. it should open and close the circuit when the clutch pedal moves. i had to adjust mine to get it to work...

Your actually suppose to use the top switch for your 2step/nlts, i posted up the instructions a few times somewhere in this 34 page thread. Its pretty tight in that area but try unconnecting the switch to give you some more room to splice the wire in.

Finally got around to throwing the car on the dyno after going SD and swapping out my TB. Picture of dyno sheet is in my profile, gonna be doing some more tuning because the tune that's on the car is really rough and i know i can squeeze more out of it. Just though id share and see if anyone else running SD has noticed any improvements.:thumb:

hey guys, Im not sure if it was discussed yet in here or not(too long for me to go through) but how did you go about wiring in your maps? Im going to go with the GM 3bar but all I found on here about installs was fooling safcs, etc and Im not sure how the evo ecu will differ. Anyone got any info?

I'd follow what they did on EvoM. That's my plan. I'll run the extra wire for the fuel temp sensor (for IAT).

But I'd also like to specific instructions from someone.

Use the MDP connector and a ROM set up for SD. I am also using the GM 3 bar and GM temp sensor.
I used the air temp. input from the MAF plug.

Yea the IAT isnt much of a problem really I just wasnt sure exactly how the MAP was wired in. Now I have to find the MDP connector because it hasnt been plugged in for along time now :p
