Evo 2 cranks but won’t start

A few months ago I stopped in a parking lot with my Evo 2 and turned the key off but the car kept running because of my turbo timer, I then turned the key back to the run position and manually turned the timer off so the car would stay running (as I’ve done before) cause I decided to go somewhere else but when the timer turned off it shut the car off.

I tried turning the key back to off and then to the start position and it will crank very strong but never even comes close to turning over. I’ve confirmed spark and compression is good in all four cylinders and the timing belt is a little worn but looks pretty good and doesn’t seem to have jumped any teeth, leading me to believe it’s a fuel issue.

If I pull the fuel flex line from the hard line just under the tank and turn the key the pump does nothing but if I power it directly from a power source it pumps fine, I also pulled all the injectors and tried starting the car to see if any fuel would come out and there was nothing. I replaced the fuel pump and MFI/MPI relay and still no luck.

I’m guessing there is some electrical issue telling the computer to not send any fuel but I’m not sure if it’s related to the turbo timer or if the timing was just coincidence? This is also my first car that isn’t carbureted so I really just have no idea where to begin and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I second that. You also need to get a wiring diagram and check form you have power and ground in the system until you don’t. I’d assume a 1g would be relatively similar. Have you swapped relays and checked fuses?

Only relay I swapped was the fuel pump relay (MFI or MPI or whatever) that sits behind the radio but no relays or fuses are visibly busted. All the wires to the turbo timer look to be connected properly and the timer will turn on and go through all its modes fine but I could try cutting it out all together if you think that may help?

I believe it’s an Ultra Full Auto Timer No. 4703? Looks like this (picture I just found online)

That's Nagai-Denshi turbo timer from early/mid 90s.
As already mentioned above that you should check the turbo timer and wiring first. Try to disconnect the turbo timer and reconnect the factory connectors, and see if the engine would start up.

Can anyone provide a picture of what the wiring would have originally looked like under the dash? I’m trying to remove it now and looking at wiring diagrams I’ve found in other threads but some previous owner seems to have touched a lot of stuff down here so I’m having a hard time figuring out what should stay or go. Also again I’ve never owned a car with this many electronics so it’s all a bit daunting to me and I want to make sure I’m not gonna short something next time I turn the key haha

Trace the white connector turbo timer harness in the pic below. The other side should be sandwiched or wired between the key cylinder harness and the car harness. You remove the turbo timer harness that is sandwiched or wired, and reconnect the key cylinder harness and car harness. And try to start the engine to see if it would fire up or not. Also there may be a wire that is connected to e-brake switch but you can leave it for now. Later you can remove all wires if you decide to remove the turbo timer completely. If you are not so sure, take a pic of the harness or wiring and upload. So we can probably tell you more specifically.

These aren’t the most clear pictures but hopefully enough is visible. There are three wires coming out of the ignition into a white clip with three prongs which then connects further down to another white clip with four prongs (new fourth wire goes to ground) and that clip feeds into the timer, on the other side of the timer the wires split and four go towards the transmission tunnel and presumably through the firewall while the rest go into a black sleeve that runs up to the timer display above the dash.

After looking again it appears two wires coming out of the box (yellow and green) head toward the transmission tunnel while the other two (grey and brown) are capped off

The harness in the pics is probably an extension harness. Can you follow that harness (red/yellow/blue and free white) in the 1st pic a bit more under steering? You would probably find another connector. That's the one you would need to disconnect and reconnect. The idea is like the pic below. You disconnect the green ones and reconnect the red ones.

The other wires from the small black box are probably for safety purpose, the one I mentioned above. Probably one is connected to E-brake switch and another is to VSS or so. It won't do anything after you remove the main harness.

To remove the timer just unplug both large connectors on the adapter and connect the lower one to the one from the ignition switch together.
