evap and egr removal

Do you guy recommend doing this. I do not need to pass emission because the car is a 97.I am just starting to realize the crazy amount of vacuum line they take up. Also it seems like it would clean up the engine bay nice. My question is will the car run funny or like crap? Or is there a downside to it?

As long as you block off the vaccum lines you shouldn't have any issues I removed all the emissions junk off my talon and have no problems.

What did you use to block off the vacuum lines. Do they make something?

Removing evap will give you the smell of gas while parked. Removing EGR will reduce your fuel economy. Since EGR runs off of vacuum, the only time it is running is while you're cruising. A clean EGR will not leak under boost either. Removing either is to your disadvantage. If you want to clean the bay up then unbolt the two solenoids on the firewall and tuck them behind your intake mani. That's about as effective aesthetically as deleting them.

If you want to check your vac lines for leaks then unhook all lines from the throttlebody and cap them off, watch your boost gauge (assuming you have one), and see if this increases your In. Hg. at idle. A healthy engine will have 18-20 In. Hg. at idle.

I am leaning both ways. I have my motor apart now and I feel like it is going to be alot of vacuum lines when I put everything back together.

You can simply use vaccum caps on the throttle body. That's what I used which I also zip tied them down just to be safe to.keep them from leaking. Also if you block Tue egr valve make sure you use the gasket with the block off plate so you wont take the chance on it leaking. Also you will more than likey throw a CEL when removing the egr valve.

I haven't heard about deleting the EGR giving you worse mileage either.

As for benefits, every vacuum line is a potential leak. Therefore, less=better.

Yes I know about the cell but here in mass 1997 and before you only need to pass a safety test so they do not hook my car up to a computer. And i will prob get the block off plate soon on ebay

If you just route the fuel vent line towards the bottom going under the car you wont have the gas smell.

I had the same thought on the vacuum lines too. alot less to worry about.
