I have a 95 tsi awd with 560cc evo injectors, 20g turbo with external wastegate, safc, walbro 255, afpr, now some guy wants to sell me a eprom ecu socketed and chipped , but he says the chip is for launch control, 550 injectors , no gov, and 42psi level... will this work with my mods?? i dont wanna waste money if its not gonna work

OP you should do extensive research and start with simple things like maintenance and clutch changes first before you just jump in and try to tune your car. I'm no tuner by any means, but i try to learn everything i can before i jump into tuning.

How confused you are on something so simple, are you sure you're ready to tune your car?

You either have an EPROM ECU or you don't (if it's a 95 it probably is, if not it is not). Take the cover off and look at it to see. If it is an EPROM ECU, it's either stock with the chip still on the board, or someone socketed it already. If it is socketed, get a chip for it. If not, get it socketed by someone who works on electronics and then get a chip. If you've got the chip already in the ECU, install the ECU and go (with a logger to watch stuff).

It is not an Eprom ecu i already covered that. Its off a 96 TSI, now my only question would be since now i know its not an eprom ecu and everyone is saying it cannot be converted either; can i take my current ecu non-eprom that is off a 96 tsi to a dyno and get it tuned or is that only with the 1g ecu and 95 eprom ecus??

You will need some sort of fuel and possibly spark control. So no you cannot tune without some way to modify the fuel tables. But you can have it dynoed to get a measurement of horsepower and torque.

The safc will give you a very basic level of tuning, but they really cant do much more than get it running.

Yea ive heard... I called Reeses Tuning shop here in San Diego and i spoke with the guy that takes care of all the tuning and he also assured me that my 96 ecu can be socketed to run a ECM link and DSM link. This guy does this for a living and he just happens to know the guy that is doing the work on my ecu!! :hellyeah: Im gonna get it done and post pics so you guys can check it out hopefully like in a week or two.

Wow, I don't know what he is smoking as the 2g can't even be converted by ECMTuning

I want to see pictures and board ID numbers

ECMLink and DSMLink are the same thing BTW and remember a board cannot be socketed unless it's converted or has an EPROM already

Take a deep breath man, you're going to blow your rear-main seal. ;P

For real, I just get irritated when people don't listen after 20 people say the same thing and disregard it all.

this plus 10..... if he magically converts it because he has been granted 3 wishes im going to shit myself.. otherwise.. its a big fat "I TOLD YOU SO!!"

haha yea i know man.... well i hope he got the three wishes not the other way around ### this ''Nhoa'' guy supposably has done it before.. He looks really nerdy and is working on these ecus all day... I actuially printed this out yesterday and showed him. He said he would do it and have me post some pics of it... trust me im in doubt too ..............:|

If he can that will rock! Please do post pics, or let us know if he falls thru.

it will have a rectangular bored raised off the main bored with a long chip in it that can be removed. ecm link has a chip that is "programable" not permanently burnt. ecm link uses your stock diagnostics port to hook to a lap top which records engine conditions while drivivng. you will tune according to knock and air/fuel ratio throughout rpm range. and the chip as noted before is a loose tune in which it is like a one size fits all glove it fits some better than others but it is a much more basic and kinda dangerous way of tuning past stock settings and you wont know if your detonating or knocking untill the engine is dyeing etc. sorry for the length.
