Engine rebuild or a newer 2nd gen? Need Opinions!!!

So ive recently threw a ball bearing out of my 420a motor, It pretty much needs a new or used rebuilt engine, However the amount of money into doing that I hear is really expensive which is around 3k to 4k to be done, and on the other hand I was thinking well shouldn't I just save up and buy a used GST or GSX? because those are the two options that im looking for. I need ideas and I honestly cant make up my mind yet. If any of you have any advice im all ears.

A ball bearing? You can find good used engines for 300-500 all day long.

Well ive been looking around for an engine in that area and I cant seem to find any that are close by, If I can find one id do it in a heartbeat.

Those ball bearings will get you everytime.... you can rebuild a motor for less then 1k depending on your build. Parts are cheap labor is what gets expensive when having to have machine work done or havine someone do the build for you. Id ditch the 420a pos and go find a gst or gsx of any year there are plenty of them for sale on here and around in local listings. The 4g is the best bang for the buck. Dollar to hp ratio to most other imports its about the cheapest to build and hit good solid numbers.

One big reason to keep your current car is that you know what the problems are with it if you have owned it any length of time. Buying another used car means you are potentially buying someone else's problems depending on why they are selling. By your post I would hazard the guess that your knowledge is minimal on what to look for when buying a turbo car, so if you go that route, bring a knowledgeable friend or mechanic. Be warned, a GST or GSX in decent condition is going to cost more than the repairs on your current car and if it needs a little love be prepared for even more $.$$.

If you decide to fix you current car, you have two options. The cheaper first option is find a running engine in a junkyard that carries a warranty and have it installed at your local shop. You should be able to find such an engine around $400 to $600 depending on your locale. The labor to swap it out will probably cost another $500 to $900 depending on the shop and labor rates in your area. The second option entails pulling your engine, performing an overhaul, and putting it back in. This will cost more in labor, and the parts and machine work will add up to more than the cost of a junkyard engine. Also if time is a factor, this will take longer than the first option.

You can find stock engines for a lot cheaper then rebuilding it. Just keep looking.

Sorry I meant Rod Bearing, I threw it threw the oil pan. Sorry for the confusion by saying ball bearing.
