1G Engine not fitting because of oilpan

A bit of context: the block cracked in my 92 Eclipse, bought another 7 bolt engine since I assumed mine was also a 7 bolt, being a late 92 model.

Now the new engine doesn't fit, because the oil pan hits the chassis, it's a little more left than the other one. The transmission fit perfectly though and I had to use the old engine mounts because the other ones didn't fit.

Now, looking at both oilpans, the new one has a ridge while the old one is flat. I know they're not interchangeable, but shouldn't the engine fit regardless? Did I unknowingly buy a non eclipse 4g63, should i try buying an eclipse 7 bolt oilpan to see if it fits?

The difference you are seeing is one of the main identifiers frequently used to determine whether it is a 6-bolt or 7-bolt when looking at an engine from the outside.

6-bolt oil pan flange is flat.
7-bolt oil pan flange has the curve, dip, ridge, i.e., is not flat.

As you note, they are not interchangeable.

Aside from all that: the picture you show of the interference - the oil pan is either backwards (drain plug is meant to be towards the rear of the car) or the oil pan is not correct for your engine. The drain plug being towards the front (exhaust manifold side) is not right.

So should I try buying a 7 bolt oil pan? It would save me A LOT of money if that's the case.

Also, do you have a picture of how a 7 bolt oilpan is supposed to look like?

I know the difference in the edge, the one that doesn't fit it's definitely a 7 bolt, and the old one that still doesn't fit it's definitely a 6 bolt. I've only been able to find photos with the drain bolt in the front, how is it supposed to go on the back?

If you have a 7-bolt engine, you need a 7-bolt-specific oil pan.

As viewed from the driver’s position, drain plug towards rear of the car. This is a turbo version so you can see the turbo oil return hole on the opposite side of the pan (towards the front of the car):

Well the pan I have it's still a 7 bolt, fit's on the engine, doesn't fit the car, could it be from a non Eclipse car?

The oil pan that is on the left does not look like any 4g63 eclipse oil pan. Also as noted by 19eclipse90 above the oil pan is backwards. It would be impossible to do this with the pickup tube installed so it has to be out of something else. You MIGHT be able to change to the correct oil pan to make it fit but you will also have to change to the correct pick-up tube. What did the engine you bought come from?

I may be able to trade you the correct oil pan and pick-up tube for what you have for a rear wheel drive project car I am working on. But to determine if the pick-up would be interchangeable we need to figure out what the engine came from. If you don't know there should be a vin number stamped on the upper left corner of the transmission side of the engine block.

It's the European model, I'm not sure it has a VIN number on the block. As for the car it came for, the guy I bought it from had it installed in an L200 but had to sell it because if had to much horsepower for the van, he said it came from a 94 Eclipse

Looks like the L200 has that style of oil pan with the drain plug on the front. Part number MD187511. Photo snagged from the internet - accuracy of depiction not guaranteed but it does show the drain plug on the front:

There was some versions of the L200 that came with a 4G63, also. No telling if it came from an Eclipse beforehand. At least you know what the oil pan is from and what you need to look for.
