I'm a bit confused what car an engine I want to buy is from. Can you tell based on the code on the block?

I spoke with the guy selling it and he says he believes is from a 95 Carsima but the Carsima didn't come with a 4g63 so it's definitely from another car, it's currently on a l300 he wanted to restore. He's gonna send pictures of the code after New Years.

The photo attached is of a random code I found online so you guys know which code I'm talking about and of the actual engine from the ad.

If the block has a VIN on it, then yes. The US models were engraved on the passenger side, behind the thermostat housing, just below the head / deck.

The code your picture shows does not tell us anything about what car the engine is from, as far as I am aware.

Do the Euro engines have the VIN too?
Maybe not in the same place sure but do you know if they do?

Perhaps the vendor meant a carisma gt? Carisma gt is technically an EVO in Europe but IIRC it was from EVO 4 which means it came with a late 4g63, not an early 4g63. Or maybe the engine was taken from an EVO 1-3 and the vendor is calling an EVO 1-3 as carisma. There is a chance that the vendor is confused between those two different 4g63, you should confirm before buying it.

If it's from an evo wouldn't it be a 4g63t?, as far as i know this one is naturally aspirated. Anyways, i will ask more questions after the holidays when he can get to the engine. If the engines not good maybe i swap the block since mines cracked, that's why i need a new one, if it's after 92 it's a 7 bolt and should be alright no? mine is late 92 so still a 7 bolt. I'll keep the thread updated.
Also more photos of the engine maybe someone can spot a quirk or something and can find more about it, it's mounted in an 85' l300.

There is no such engine code as 4G63T. This was never put on an engine block by Mitsubishi. All turbo blocks are marked 4G63, only. You would have to open the engine up to determine whether it was a turbo block or not; it could be a turbo block with a N/A exhaust manifold.

Based on the serial number underneath the 4G63 engraving, I would venture to say it is a 7-bolt. You can read more about that here:
What year & month does engine serial # NH0001 correspond to?

Like said the VIN engraving will tell you. Though i have a evo3/rvr motor here that has NO VIN engraved on the block at all. I have also years ago had a evo 3 that did have a vin engraved if my memory was correct. The vin on the block would be only way to tell without tearing into it what exactly it is. I have saved the list of what every value of the 17 mean on the vin. This tells you everything you need to know. I started using this method back on late 2000's to buy split thrust 7 bolt's based on if the year letter was a W or a X. AKA 98 or 99 block.

So as far as the block goes, what are the chances it will fit on mine? If they both 7 bolts, and they basically look the same?
