Ok i had a oil line pop off on the way home the other day and spray all my oil out over the front of my engine bay and i heard a "rannnn" noise and the car shut off. i fixed the leak. changed the oil, oil filter, and plugs. now the car turns over but wont start. its like im not gettin any fire. Help me out guys i need this car runnin.

Also what could have messed up is the timing belt.. I know it is intact and everything from your video but if you got oil on it, which I'm guessing you probably did, it could have swollen up and stretched, getting oil on an accessory drive belt or timing belt will do that. If it stretched it could have caused you to jump timing and possibly have had the valves kiss a piston. Plus I imagine your lifters are completely collapsed from the lack of oil to keep them pumped up. Like others have suggested, take it to a cylinder head shop if you don't know how to do everything and have them check over the entire head. While it is off check the condition of the top of the pistons and the cylinder walls. Good luck man.

Well i got another head lined up to get this weekend(1g 6bolt). Ordered oem from the dealership and driven for about 12,000 miles. So i can just swap my cams to that head and as long as the pistons are fine, i should just be able to put a new head gasket on and i should be good to go as long as timing is good. Whats the easiest way to check my timing?

Sucks man!! I love it when I'm right though....

Anyways look at this picture below. Notice that between the rockers and the cam lobes there are gaps. The rocker should be touching the cam lobes at all times. The lifter automatically adjusts this gap so either your valves are bent and stuck open or your lifters are all collapsed and are not providing the pressure needed to keep the rockers where they should be. I'm guessing the valves are bent. Sorry, I would find a cheap head NT or Turbo doesn't matter as long as it's a 1g head. Then put your cams in it and throw a new timing belt on.

Good Luck from here on out!!

Well im gonna go pickup a 1g head froma guy this weekend. he ordered it oem from the dealership and then drove it for 12,000 miles before switching to a hahn racecraft head. So its pretty much like new. I can get a head gasket as well by this weeknd. Should have it back together by the following weekend.

ARP head bolts are resueable.
If you plan on using an aftermarket head gasket, just buy all the other gaskets you need seperate.
check out EXTREME PSI

thanks man they actually have the best deal on the cometic that ive seen so far. Opinions on best head gasket for the money? Anywhere i can find out how much boost each usually holds?

Cant get the notch on the crank pulley to line up tdc by turning it by hand. If i try turning it any farther to line it up the center nut on the crank pulley breaks loose like its coming off.

Yep it's probably because your valves are keeping your pistons from moving any farther. It really doesn't matter where the positioning of the motor is when you pull the head. It really only matters when you're putting it back together. Just get it as close as you can to TDC then pull the head off. When you go to put it back together just remember to put the cams at TDC with the dowel pins at 12 o'clock and the crank at TDC then line up the oil pump and you should be set to go.

Well im gonna order my cometic head gasket tommorow and i should be pickin up my practically brand new oem head tommorow afternoon and my polished evo 8 wheels. hell yea. is extreme pis's price of 78.99 th ebest price that anyone knows of on a cometic head gasket? or ne other opinions on which 1 to get.

i went and got a haynes manual today just to make sure i dont forget anything when putting it back together. Ill post some pics tommorow when the head is off. and well see what everything looks like. hopefully my 2g pistons are ok. id be quite mad if they were damaged after i just had the motor rebuilt.

Remember to soak up the lifters and rocker arms in oil over-night. And use some lube assembly on the cams. Sorry to hear, but good luck. Any questions at all, ask don't hesitate!

Edit: And yeah that price on the Cometic HG seems to be good enough, so go for it.

The cometic HG is an MLS gasket, I don't think you have to worry about blowing the gasket with too much boost. With that said, the major concern with MLS is the mating surfaces, it requires almost perfect surfaces in order to seal properly, make sure you check both the head and block before installation. Using copper spray will help sealing as well.

Well I ordered that head gasket this morning. Should be here tommorow or thursday. Hopefully have it all back together by monday or next weekend at the latest as long as nothing else is wrong.

Heres my new head and brand spankin new 3rd gen rockers and lifters.

Gotta get ready now. Every year i wait till late and those damn kids sneak up outta no where. So im ready in advance this year. Should go back together smoothly. didnt get a chance to get the head off today but i did get my wheels and stuff and everything else takin care of.

Only turn the motor over clockwise. If the bolt was coming loose you were turning it counter-clockwise. I still don't understand how this failure happened though. If you lost oil pressure, draining the lifters, wouldn't this prevent valves from opening? I'm assuming the timing belt jumped several teeth as this happened.

Well itll be back on the right way for sure when i get it back together. Ill check and see what i can when i get the cover off and see what it looks like. I couldnt rotate it more then a quarter turn in either direction. Ill let you guys know how it goes once i get it back together.

Any tips or hints on disassembly/reassembly would be greatly appreciated. ;)

How does holding the throttle all the way down while cranking clear out a flooded engine? - Not being a smart ass really. I didn't know that.
When cranking an engine with the throttle plate closed, the only air that will be entering the engine will be through the idle air control circuit.

By opening the throttle plate, you're allowing a rush of air to enter the engine to dry up the excess fuel that has been dumped. Be careful doing this....

Your only other option is to wait for the engine to dry out, or try to give it some starting fluid to aid in drying up the excess fuel.

giving you heads up bro, ( speaking from experience) dont put that cometic on there without having your head on block decked...it will leak! cometics require very fine RA surfaces to function properly. just giving you heads up.
