I have a 95 gst with a 6bolt swap. I have an oil leak somewhere and its getting on the timing belt and spraying everywhere! Its all over everything on the drivers side. Water pump looks new. Anyone have this problem? I gotta fix this soon!

This was happening to me, so I tore it all apart and it happened to be the oil filter housing gasket. It had 3 or 4 crack all the way through it which sprayed oil on my timing belt and the timing belt sprayed the oil everywhere.

First thing to check should be the seals on your front case - I.E. the front main seal and the seal for the balance shaft. Non-OEM seals (at least in the 3/S world) tend to leak. The first time I rebuilt my 3000GT I made the mistake of putting a non-OEM front main on the car and it leaked like a SOB exactly as you described. Clean the engine up as well as you can and put the car on jacks and run it to see whether you can see where it's leaking out, but that would be my guess.

It doesnt appear to be the cam seals. Majority of the oil on the lower portion of the engine and whats on the top being whats getting slung up.

Than I would have to agree with what's already been said. I'd check the oil pan gasket, and the oil filter gasket for cracks and the like. Or, you could always put the car on jackstands (putting it on four would probably be best, so it's fairly level, as if it were on the road), start the car, put the transmission in neutral and slowly rev the engine and hold it while having someone/ you look underneath for where the leak is coming from. Atleast that's what I'd try, might not be the brightest idea, and I really couldn't give you my opinion as I'm not there and can't see the car. It could possibly even be a crack in the front case/ oil pump housing, underneath the timing cover, which I think is unprobable, given the description you gave (oil being sprayed all over the bottom of the engine/ bay down there), that is if you have the timing cover on the car...

thats where mine was I ended up replacing the seals twice til I went and got a new pvc from the dealer, replaced the seals again no problem. * when I just did the seals i started the car no leaks, even reving it no leaks soon as i drove it oil every where so the last time I ran it through the gears just to make sure thats a lot of work to get to them seals.

before you pull you tb off go ahead a line the marks up so you dont catch hell trying to get them lined up after the belt is off

There is no timing belt cover on it.

Yeah, than like I had mentioned, and WORPeclipse had specified, it could be the front case seal/ gasket, or any of the seals underneath it (ie: balance shaft seal, crankshaft seal, and/ or the oil pump seal), and there's always the oil filter, oil filter housing, and oil pan gasket down in that area as well if you haven't checked any of those yet either.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to check from around the headgasket and valvecover gasket areas either, the oil could be running down that side of your engine (rather than spraying out) onto your belt and getting everywhere that way too... but you should be able to see both of those areas fairly easy since your timing belt cover is off.

Let us know how things go.

Well I replaced the crank seal and that wasnt it. Seems to be that I see now it might be coming from behind the oil pump sprocket. Is that a normal problem for 4g63's?

oil on belt change that since your there do a timing belt job, water pump, you never know cheap insurance, pulleys and tensioner. If you dont know when it was done dont assume it was do ne before or ill do it later. Ive learned from experience, take stuff of and look for leaks you may find more than one.

Castle plug looks fine. Balance shaft deleted already. Seems to be running out from behind the oil pump sprocket.

Replaced the oil pump seal. Now to compress the tensioner at work and re-install it.

Hopefully that should be it. I've been on here since 2005, and have probably read alot more than I should ever have, and have never read anything of the oil pump seal failing as being anything unusually common or normal. It was probably just old and used and in need of regular replacement if you hadn't replaced it since you've had the engine.

Good luck, and hopefully that seal will be the fix.

^^^ Will do. Ill post my findings when I get a chance to fire it up again.

Finally fixed it. It was the oil pump seal. :hellyeah:
