I keep hearing about the 97-99 turbo ecu's being flashable but have yet to find any solid answer to wether its true or not. Im asking because i would like to flash my car but dont feel like bothering with it all if it wont even work. If anyone has any better answers than i have found it would be great.

The plastic ECUs are capable of being flashed like the EVO VIII ones but what are you going to flash onto it?

Well i wanted to flash it because it needs tuned...bad. The same way that they are done with the EVO's. I found that the logging software can be used but i was never able to find if i could use the flashing software. The car is running like butt with only injector compensation on a MAFT...LOL. This is the answer i was looking for. Thank you!!!

There currently is only one way of flashing the H8/500 processor based ecu that 98-99 eclipses (don't think talons ever came with plastic case ecu?) which is a system called ecutek. I don't know much about the ecutek system.

There is a program in the development stages called ECUflash that has read ability to get the ROM file in the ecu but at this point nothing can be written back to the ecu. The program can already read/flash the EVO 7/8/9 ecu.

I myself am planning to go with the ECUplus tuning system and will be waiting with high hopes for ECUflash to fully support the 98-99 eclipse ecu.

Damn..LOL, i figured it would be like ECUflash and be free, minus the expense of a tactrix cable. If i was going to go the route of the ECUplus i would just do dsm link. Going to keep my fingers crossed for the ECUflash!! Im going to still try to tune it just to see for myself if it works or not.

This sounds promissing! I guess my Plastic ECU may come in handy after all. I just sent ECUtek an email asking about this so I guess we will see!

Aw lame my 99 didn't come with the plastic-cased ecu :( I have dsmlink already but it would have given the old ECU some re-sale value hehe.

Just keep in mind that if you are trying to do go the software tuning route instead of the hardware tuning route like dsmlink, AEM, ecuplus you still need a program like tunerpro to EDIT the stock ecu ROM files.

I already changed my mind...im hunting for a 95 eprom and im just going to get DSM link, better that way anyways for me because i am pretty good with DSM link...i was just going to go the ecuflash route because it wasnt going to cost me anything..LOL. Thanks for the replies guys!

This is an interesting perspective. DSMLink is a software solution. They had to provide some additional RAM space on the 1G to hold all the variables but on the 2G ECU it all fit.

We did tons of editing to the ECU binaries before tunerpro ever cam along. While tunerpro and other such tools has made it possible for the uninformed to do what we could. You don't need it to do tuning.

Sorry we do not support your ECU

There is the response from EcuTek. Thanks for all the info there! I guess I will just stick to DSMlink

I am currently running evoscan/tactrix cable to log. I can download/save/see my rom info using ecuflash from my ecu and it see’s /reads the year, model-usdm, make, model, trany, even ecu case label-MD359403 and the XML ID-EM2363. But I am unable to edit the metadata yet they haven’t been able figure out the kernal on Mitsu H8/500 ecu’s yet. At least I haven’t found anyone that has software that will edit it.

A local EVO/Subie tuner and I are going to be using ECU+ on my car. Being it should be well over 500whp I will be trying all of the features and will give a full write up within the next month on how well this works. Luckily enough my 98 Talon has the little black plastic ECU!

I'm well aware of that. But since we are both capable of tuning AEM, DSMLink, ECUTek, ECUFlash, DSMap and I have messed with Megasquirt a little, I'm pretty sure we can figure it out. Been looking through it after downloading it and it's a lot easier than I first though. No map tracing involved so it should be pretty straight forward. And I was just stating that Talon's do come with plastic ECU's since everyone seems to think it's only Eclipse's.
