Ok guys this is my first time tuning a Dsm with more than a AFC and a wideband. Ive searched before posting so i need some info. Where do i buy the software needed to flash and log my Ecu? Can i use my laptop?

Where is a good place/thread to learn the 98/99 ecu and steps to take toward tuning it. Thanks for the help in advance.

I originally had a Haltec e6k in my rx7 so im not a stranger to tuning. Just new to the Dsm and flashable ecu's.

How rough are y'all with the adapter if you're afraid to break it?

I've left one on the roof and had it fall off down the street and it still works great

There was a known issue with the USB input coming loose or internally cracking for a while (first few runs of the board) but I thought the manufacture got that fixed, unless there is another problem people are having.

I was thinking about taking this route, but I talked to a few pro tuners and they said its much easier to invest in a 95 Eprom with DSM link. If you plan to have the car pro tuned, or dynotuned, I would highly recommend DSMlink. its easier to work with and tuners can tune the car in much faster, resulting in cheaper tuning costs!

This is a thread about evoscan/ecuflash. Lets not turn it into a link vs flash thread.

Wow, 27 whole posts about flashing before someone started the "buy ECMLink" mantra. That's gotta be a new record. Maybe this flashing stuff is actually starting to gain steam?

Back on topic, I've had my 1.3U cable (Evo 8 ECU here) stored outside in the glove box in 100+ summer heat and -5 winter cold. I don't abuse it otherwise and it still works perfect.

Still learning the system rightnow. I really just want to know what cable i need to make it work. The 1.3 or 2.0? Can someone just give me the direct link to what cable? HAhaha Im so into learning the software i havent even looked at what cable.

This is the one you'll need

Tactrix Openport 2.0

Jesus that was quick. Thanks guys. I was re-reading the thread and noticed somethign about the 1.3 cable? In short I want to be able to log and tune at the sametime that is all.

The Evolutiion site is really informative.

Tactrix Openport 2.0

Does this include the cable? I noticed a extension cable. So basically everything I need to hook up to the laptop? After buying the cable do i have to go online to download the software?
Also i saw something about having it work with a Iphone?

When you buy it off the site I quoted, you need to buy the extra Mitsubishi reflash adapter (the one at 10$). If you get that you'll have everything you need.

For the program: Download EcuFlash

And go here: http://ceddy.us/ceddymods/
for the fun extra stuff for ecuflash

Not sure about the iphone thing though. The 1.3 cable is an extra one, if you want to log and tune with only one, the one I mentioned is all you need. You'll need to buy evoscan though (only one that's not free, but 25$ is far from expensive)

So i basicaly download these programs onto my laptop and when i plug the cable into the OBD II port i open the program? Reading some of your earlier post i saw you state you can buy the 1.3 cable just to log for like 15 bux. sounds like a good investment. thanks for the help as this is kinda confusing to me.:thumb:

Well it's not as simple as that, first you'll need to make sure you install the ecuflash (the drivers automatically installed with it enable you to use the cables as they should be used). Once you've got the drivers figured out, I'd suggest getting a couple trial runs with the evoscan, log some of your info, read it to get an idea how healthy your car is running (if you buy the extra memory card that goes into the 2.0 openport, you can do that without the laptop). You will only be using ecu flash to "flash" an image on the ecu itself. So you can fiddle with ecuflash for hours without having it connected to the car, you only flash once your tune is ready.

Side note: you only need the reflash adapter I mentioned to flash the image. When you're logging only, you only need the OBDII plug part.

LOL as you can tell i have been researching my ass off. The only part thats still hazy is Downloading software for the system, two cables for two diff plugs or usb's? basically when i hook it up will there be two cables one for each plug going into the computer?

So what your saying is i could buy the cheap $15 dollar cable and just use that to log on my laptop?

On the Tactrix dongle there is a 2.5mm headphone plug that you use to connect the reflash connector. The reflash connector connects to a beige plug beside the obdII connector

Ahh now im getting it. This thread should be stickied. LOL. After all of this im starting to pick up on the basics. The software part is the hardest thing to understand at this point. If i download Ecu flash i can buy the $15 dollar cable and be able to log just not tune. To tune/flash i need the tactrix 2.0 cable and can download ceddy mods for the features like stutter box, cel light, ect? sound pretty close? or vice versa?

Could someone point me in the direction of the cheap logging cable yall speak of?

Ecuflash is the program you use to tune and flash. Ceddymod is the name of the files that let you use ecuflash for our ecu's.

As for the cheap cable. Just get on eBay a search for "vagcom." Sldo set it for cheapest first and locsted inUSA. They should be $10-15 shipped

Yup found it just now. you have pm. BTW the ones i see say they are for audi/volkswagen? They the same? So just buy the cord hook up to the computer and im set? God i feel stupid. Its like the first time i tuned a AFC.

Spoke with ed1380 earlier and i have a larger grasp of the system now. I feel that once installed i will be able to tune with it fairly easy. However, i feel the one path im having trouble with is knowing how to setup the ceddy mods within the ecuflash program. I hear alot of stories of drivers being difficult? Ive looked at the ceddy mods site and choosing the Appropriate software is confusing. I know i need 1.9 but the model year is confusing cause they only show a 98 which i figure will work. Care to shine some light on which one i need?

This is the page in question.

The 98 and 99 have the same software on the ecu. Ceddy just chose to use that one, because that's probably the ecu he had.

Nvm. I looked at the link and those are the stock files in case you don't have it. To download ceddymod you need to click on the store tab.
