ECM link problems

So I've just recently bought a 98 gst and the previous owner gave me an ECM link disk and cable to use. So I've installed the disk on my laptop and when i plug the cord into the car and the laptop ill run the program and all that happens is this screen(this is the screen that comes up before the actual program loads) then the program closes. In devices it shows the COM3 is connected but I've looked around for solutions and i cant seem to find any(idk if its drivers? but those should be on the disk right?).. any help would be greatly appreciated

I'd suggest uninstalling the program and reinstalling it.

Install this first:
http://www.ecmtuning.com/downloads/install/setup_3_26_35_full.exe

Then install this:
http://www.ecmtuning.com/downloads/prerelease/setup_3_26_90_update.exe

Then install this:
http://www.ecmtuning.com/downloads/drivers/CDM 2.04.06.exe

snowboader....thank you for your help.. this was also my problem..everything great now.. the only exception is that I cant get a connection... ive assigned the port to com4 as it shows in my device manager.. and still no connection.. can you tell me where to start?..as I feel im doing everything right on the wiki..

Do you have the "Scan ports for ECU" box checked? This will help find the cable if it's not in the COM port you designated.

If yes, do you see the light on the cable flash when you try and connect?

yes sir...that box is checked

and flashes...yes

And the key is in the ON position?

it says com4: no response received

even thou it flashes..could it be the cable?

Does it looks like it tries to poll/connect to any other COM ports? Or does it only look at COM 4?

it tries com3....but that's it

It's possible it's the cable, but usually if it flashes, it's ok.

So if you go into your device manager at this moment and look at the COM port assignments, how many are there and which one is the cable assigned to?

I don't have anything else to suggest at the moment. If the driver is installed (last link in the first post), the cable is recognized by the PC and is lighting up, it should work.
