Ok I have a new problem with my 1996 Eclipse RS. Intermittently it wont stay running. It cranks perfectly and starts right up, no hesitation what so ever. But when I start the car it either just dies a second afterward or it will idle a bit rough. Then after i get going, once I let out the clutch out to change the gear I am in the rpm's just fall like a rock unless I hit the gas pedal. I just have to touch the gas to keep it going but it makes it difficult having a manual.... I don't have three feet. Some times when my car does this my car will idle fine at a dead stop but the second i get going and change gears it drops. Any pointers?

mines doing the same thing, im assuming its due to my girlfriends brother RIPPING OUT my boost gauge. way to go..my idle gets super low, and will just rev itself up to like 2k, then drop and stutter, and fight to no stall..then she stalls.

Check what's been stated above then check for a faulty fuel pressure regulator. One of my old cars did this... it was a total pain to make sure i had the gas pedal down a bit in order to keep it running. Turned out to be a bad FPR.

I just tested my vacuum pressure today. The factory spec is 17 - 19 inches of vacuum at 900 rpm. My car has 11 - 12 inches of vacuum at 880ish rpm. Once I found that I hooked up a smoke machine to check for vacuum leaks. I filled that manifold full till smoke was pouring out the cold air intake. But no other smoke leaks. Also how would I check if my throttle position sensor is good or not? And the fuel pressure sensor? I am decently smart when it comes to cars but I'm not a full blown mechanic... yet.

If you have'nt bought one yet i'd buy a haynes manual. It'll tell you how to check the tps using a multimeter and how to check the fpr.

Definately pick up the Haynes manual has helped me out a ton. Itll tell you how to check all of that stuff and have pictures to show you how.

I would still bet one vacuum leak, it definitely sounds like one. Check the manual for all the other lines that hold vacuum. Also check your compression.
