I just fixed my battery problem in my 91 GSX A/T now the car dosent want to stay running when its cold it idels just fine and stays running. when it gets to opperating temp it drops to like 400rpm's and stalls out. Even when i try to put it in gear it stalls so i have to give it a little gas to go into gear. Please help me i have too many problem with this car

if all you did was change out a battery then just check your battery terminals and make sure that you have the right battery. But if it was the same problem before you switched out a battery then its another issue.

I had the same issues before i did the battery but it wasn't this bad. The car seems to be running a little too rich i was thinking mabey the PCV valve. but ill take a look at my maf tomorrow

The person i bought the car from said he replaced the ECU and if it is bad how do i check it. I also just changed the pcv valve which was clogged shut and i checked my maf and it was plugged in.

I am actually having the same problem. I can start the car up when its colder out and it runs good, until i hit operating temp and then i have to keep my foot on the gas ALL the time when i come to complete stops just so the car wont stall out.

This problem started out of no where, so i don't even know where to begin with troubleshooting.

Often the Fast Idle Air Valve will keep the car running while cold when the ISC is not working.
Once the FIAV closes from the coolant warming up the car dies because the ISC is stuck all the way in.

If you can get the car to run by opening the throttle a little bit or turning the BISS out a bit then it's time to measure the ISC coils and have somebody check out your ECU.

I just talked to a bunch of diff people today. most of them said there could be cataylitc converter problems. start your car up see if the cat turns red hot at opp temp. if it dose the cat is bad. sometimes the cat wont turn red and it will still be bad mabey try checking your cat

Sorry to bring back an older topic but I am also having the same problem. I checked the coils in the ISC and they are all giving 30 ohms resistance. I also had the ISC plugged in while unbolted from the TB and tried to start the car to see if the ISC would move from the closed to the open position and it does. Any other ideas?

I'm also having the same problem. I adjusted the BISS screw until the car idles fine without stalling, but that's just a bandaid, not the cure. In addition, my car is having issues with accelerating. I can be crusing at 14% throttle and mashing down to 30% or more and speed will barely climb. Vac at start is 16 inHG and in gear its 19-20. Going up a hill takes 50% throttle or more. No boostleaks. All vac lines seem solid. I'm going to be checking timing via my datalogger later, but does anyone else have any ideas?

I just went through a simlar problem I replaced almost everything and come to find out my resistor pack wasnt plugged in all the way, must have come loose. Get a data logger, might help.

Changed the fuel filter to see if the idle was dropping because it wasn't getting enough fuel...but no, sadly there was no change. On the plus side, I AM getting better gas mileage! Also still getting rough starts or no starts at all when its hot. Waited a minute and it started perfectly. Next idea?

What are you talking about? Why would a cat stall out your car? Thats part of the emissions system.

Are any of you guys getting a CEL?

Scratch that. Last night, right after I left work, I pulled into the gym parking lot. The car briefly sputtered and the CEL kicked on for 2-3 seconds before going back out. Unfortunately, I didn't have my logger hooked up at the time so I didn't see what it was. CEL hasn't kicked on since then either.

I know this is an old thread but my friends car is having the same exact issue and I wont be able to look at it till next weekend so I figured I would try and revive this one to see if anybody else had experienced this same problem.

The car starts right up and idles and drives fine. As soon as it gets up to operating temperature it stalls out the second you take your foot off of the accelerator.

Any light that you guys could shed on the situation would be much appreciated.

How about some basics, like what year/generation car is it?

Its a 1997 GSX. Like I said I hadnt had chance to even touch the car yet as I have been busy with work lately. I just found this thread and PMed iiiwildfireiii assuming 2 years later he had figured out what the problem was. But he hasnt been on since the 16th so I figured I would revive this thread to see of anybody else had experienced this.

Oh and the problem came completely out of the blue and wasnt following any recent modifications. The car has almost identical mods are my car does (see profile if nescescary) minus a different clutch/flywheel setup.
