So I was replacing the valve cover gasket (Friday night) and went to start it up 24+ hours later (Sunday Afternoon) and got a click and nothing. Though it was the battery. Tried jumping it, nothing. bump started it with my brother and it started fine and ran well. Got a new battery for it today and installed it. Everything came on but I got the same click. Went out 10 minutes later to try again and there was no power to the car. Does anyone know what could have caused this.

*side note* Friend who was installing the gasket touched the ecu with the ratchet while tightening the bolt to the positive terminal and it sparked. Would that affect anything? (I was able to bump start after this happened)

everything is grounded, all fuses are good, and its a 420a engine so the ecu and batter are basically next to each other

smell the ECU and be sure it doesn't smell fishy. If it does It's almost 100% fried, but if not check with an Ohmmeter what the resistance is to the starter. I feel the starter is your problem because it clicks, but doesn't engage, but when you "pop" started it you didn't need the starter, but your spark plugs were firing because it ran, so I assume your ECU is fine.

Yeah I can almost guarantee that your starter is either bad or has too much resistance to it. Your ECU is fine if your car ran when you pop started it with the clutch. Think, since the jump didn't work because the starter is bad and wont turn over, it just clicks on. And when you pop start it you don't use the starter, but rather the speed of the transmission to engage the flywheel with the clutch to turn over the engine to start it.
