Hey guys, Im gonna be startin to build a motor for my gsx here soon. Power goals are around 400-450 hp. I know that stock internals are capable of handling that amount of power but I want to make sure I dont lose a rod. So I went ahead and ordered my early xmas presant,:hellyeah: (eagle rods) and I just wanted to make sure there wouldnt be a problem with running eagle rods with OE pistons and crank. Im on kind of a tight budget so pistons are a low priority if I can get away with it. I can either use some extra OE pistons i have from a previous tear down or I could buy a rebuild kit from a friend that has pistons in the kit. I forget the name of the kit, but the description said that they were better then OE because of new meterial or something. What do you guys think?

I plan to run a 20g ext gated, 264/272 cams, 660+ injectors, 255 wally, dsmlink v2 and probably a gm maf and maft.. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Well since stock rods are pressed pin and eagles are free floating, you would have to machine a grove for a pin to retain the wrist pin into the stock pistons.

I dont know anyone who would recommend doing that.

Can't work that way... Can work the other way.. You can do 1g rods with nice pistons..

If you have already gone to the expense of getting good rods I would have to say save your pennies up and get the good forged pistions....

Maybe parents, wife, GF can all pitch in and get you a set for Christmas.....

If you will be upgrading your rods you might as well upgrade your pistons too while you're at it since everything will be torn apart, that, and the fact you will have more piece of mind you did evrything right the first time.

I would have def. went with 1g rods on a forged piston.. Even a dsmgraveyard evo piston on 1g rod... Would have been way cheaper...

Whats free floating mean?

Thanks for the replys guys, my original plan was to go with eagle rods and mahle pistons but after my 16g took a sh@t that kinda put a damper on things money wise. But I guess Ill have to hold off on the motor until I can get some pistons. Hopefully I can talk the parents into gettin me some. ;)

Call up MAPerformance, they are having awesome deals on pistons right now, I'm about to order a set of 1400HDs for a steal.

They have standard Wisecos and Wossners for very cheap too.

A wrist pin is either retained by being pressed tightly into the PE of the rod, or it is retained by having spirolocks inserted into the piston at each end of the pin. If spirolocks are used, then the rod has a bushing and does not need to be press-fit.

The problem is that the factory pistons aren't designed to accept spirolocks and the Eagle rods aren't press-fit, so there's nothing to hold the wrist pin in place.

A press fit wrist pin means they either heat it up or freeze it down so the wrist pin fits into the rod and then they have this press that smashes the wrist pin and actually compresses it so it is bigger and the wrist pin is held solid inside the rod and floats in the piston... A floating wrist pin has a clip that holds the wrist pin from sliding out of the rod and piston...

Ya^^ he beat me to it LOL...
