Dumbest things you've heard a DSMer say? :)

LOL so you think all TSIs are AWD? or is there some reference i am not getting?

I did some googleing.

Apparently the reason I've never heard of a 2g FWD TSi is because they were not available in Canada, much like how we never got Eclipse GSX's.

Damn, I was just a candidate for this thread. ROFL.

I used to own a Automatic Turbo Volvo. They use a button to activate and deactivate overdrive which affects how the turbo boost on it. Also BMW 335i are able to shut off their turbos completely through the ecu.

yes but his is the s40 t5 awd 5 spd... and the turbo still worked on that volvo no matter what did it not.. and this kid said his honda has a v8 in it... stock at that... soooo, yea....

Funniest thing!!!! I sold my first DSM after I got my 99 GST but anyways it was a 96 RS just basic bolt ons to the motor and sadly a riced out interior LOL but anyways someone bought it after a week or so of sitting at this dealership and one night I saw it cruising around so I decided to be a douche and roll up beside him so I rolled down the window and said sweet car bro!!! Did you build it yourself.... he was like ya I've had it for 3 years did all the work myself.... I was in awe hahaha I just drove off

Haha. Love this one ^

I traded a civic for a 93 tsi and the car would rev to 3000 and then die. His friends asked him why it did it( in the middle of the trade )and he said its because its a turbo car and all turbo cars do that.haha i just didnt say anything and died laughing when they left.

Turned out the intake manifold only had one bolt holding it to the head.

yeah

Pretty funny. I had a 6 bolt on craigslist out of a Tsi. A guy called me about putting it in his eclipse (same year as tsi engine came from), and he said it wouldnt fit. I tried to convince him it will fit in any 89-99 dsm. His arguement was that DSM only made american cars (talon/laser) and mitsu is dsm, which are completely different parts...

I dont understand why people are so dumb! Everybody has a smart phone with internet, and any answer to any question is just a finger-flick away, so why are people just making up stuff?

You can take a donkey to water, but you cant make it drink...

You can race a honda if you want, but you may as well just pour your gasoline down the drain also.

The only way to shut off a turbo is to not run one. I don't know of any turbo that will run zero boost with a wastegate fully open. With a wastegate that's controlled by pressure, it will take at least some boost to open it. With an electronic one, still, that would have to be one gigantic wastegate to vent enough exhaust gas to not create any boost. It would be downright impossible to stop the turbo from spinning completely, too. For all practical considerations, every turbo has a minimum amount of boost it will run, mainly with internal gates.

How on earth would you "completely shut down" a turbo through the ECU and why would you want to?

I go to DeVry University here in the Seattle area where I'm at, and I drive a white 1995 GST. I just started here in the summer, and about the 2nd week into the semester, i saw a white 97-99 eclipse, so i thought "hey awesome, another eclipse in the area." I thought that was cool because i just got my GST a few months ago and don't know any local people who own a DSM.

I ran into him a few times and found his car is a GSX that is bone stock save for his suspension setup. Just last week I had a mechanic friend of mine looking at my car after classes (he has a really nice old Porche 944) and we had the hood up, just lookin'. So that other kid with the GSX pulled up next to my car in the parking lot and got out to look too.

The first thing that came out of his mouth when he looked at my engine bay was, "Why do you have your blow off valve recirculated?"

It was an honest question, and I decided to be nice and answer his question simply, and save him the 5 minute lecture of why he's an idiot. He was genuinely surprised that I didn't want to have the louder BOV sound, and didn't care when I explained to him that he is likely running rich, etc. etc. etc.

He than also asked me if it's normal for an Eclipse to blow smoke out the exhaust. After i got over this 2nd little surprising question, i said no, it's not normal. Turns out he blows a lot of white smoke, and he still has his stock turbo with 130k miles on the clock. So i told him that is turbo is likely burning some oil (smelled that way too)

So, that gave me the idea to ask, What dumb things have you heard DSMers say? Also, what dumb things have your heard other car enthusiasts say about DSMs?
white smoke is not oil. that is coolant. ;)

white smoke is not oil. that is coolant. ;)

The exception to this is if it is mixing... Bad turbo seals... I have had a compeltely horrible messed up T15 on my Hyundai, thing just poured white smoke... was oil, and a hint of coolant.

Guy with a 4g63 turbo swapped elantra tried to bullshit me into believing he had a t3/t4 turbo. i didnt say nothing just went along with it but it was a 14b turbo. wonder what he will say when he finds out i really know these cars.

Not a DSM, but I have talked to numerous people asking me how much they can increase there cubic inches by going with a longer rod ><
Haha i love this! I work at a machine shop and i hear that atleast once a week from some high school kid coming in. I dont know why its such a difficult concept to grasp. Its all to do with the stroke of the crank. Next time someone asks you that give them this example: using the 2nd gen stroke 88mm. Say you have a 5in rod (not correct, just an example) that rod is going to travel 88mm. Ok now say you have a ten foot rod on the same crank it is going to travel...wait for it! 88mm holy shit. Bahahahaha

Kid comes into the shop today...

Kid: " hey why you have GST decal on the back of your car... You have no inter cooler you poser!!!!"

Me: " ever heard of a " side mount"? Congratulations you are the shops " idiot of the day!!!!!"

He walks out and looks again then leaves silently never looking back.....

Today I parked next to an RX7 at school. I was just getting out as he was leaving. Talking cars with him when we get to:

Him: "So what's done to this thing?"

Me: "It's just your basic 16G setup, tuned on link, HKS cams, basic bolt-ons."

Him: "That's almost the exact same as me. Except my turbo is stock."

Me: "And obviously without cams" (I was making a rotary joke. but..)

Him: "Actually thats what was wrong with the car when I bought it. The cams were bad, broken in three places, so I just rebuilt the motor. Since it needed them I just replaced them with bigger ones."

Me: "Er.. so you did a V8 swap then? I'm confused.."

Him: "No it's stock motor, just bigger cams bro!"

ROFL

And then, later today in the shop:

One of the guys from the auto body program came over as I was doing my trans filter:

"So is this thing a manual? And 4 or 6 cylinder?"

I kindly replied: "It's automatic, hence this auto tranny right here above me, and they didn't come with V6s."

"Oh that's too bad I was gonna see if you wanted to race my Mitsubishi GT 3000"

"Oh. Is it a VR4?"

"What? No dude it's a GEE TEE THREE THOUSAND."

This made my PP hurt.

I would make sure you have the supporting mods for that 16g so you don't damage your engine. check the stage 1 upgrade path and check 'em off or get em. There is no way around them.

I threw a rod a few weeks ago, i have a somewhat built block now. Doing ALOT of upgrades along the way. Upgraded the whole fuel system, head studs, bse, cams, valve job, port and polish, valve springs, tuning software. Only thing that is going back on it the 16G till i can get the pte 5857 i want.

Also doing a wire tuck, cruise eliminator cable, and remote battery. :thumb:

I was looking at a 92' part-out, and asked the guy if he still had the BOV. He didn't know what it was. Needless to say I walked out with a 1g BOV, with the flange, and all the pipes for my 2g for $5. And I plan to go back. LOL
