Dumbest things you've heard a DSMer say? :)

Went to autozone a few days back to check some prices..

me "i need a timing belt for a '97 eclipse gst"

guy: "cool, i used to have one, is it the turbo one?"

me "uh yes, the gst......turbo"

guy " is it stock or aftermarket"

me "its pretty much all stock aside for an intake and exhuast, just a daily driver"

guy "ok good, i wouldnt reccomend a timing belt from here...my awd 420a had just about 875hp and i snapped two belts i put on from here"

 im going to call bullshit (<-hope i can say that) for two reasons. One, I would never put a autozone timimg belt on a 875 hp car let alone two of them, and two, this is also the kid who used to drive a blue, turbo vw beetle (new stlye)

And 420a AWD?

This was the other night

Him- oh you have a DSM? Nice I used to own one of those
Me- cool did you have a 420a or a 4g63t
Him- 96 Eclipse AWD and yeah 420a turbo
Me- so what conversion and mods did you exactly do?
Him- nothing much mostly stock
Me- but only the 4g63t came in AWD stock
Him- idk something like that *changes convo*

I had a guy at napa tell me that I should run a twin turbo on mine. and if I run a small one in to a big one in sieries I should get about 90 pis out of them. I couldnt even dignify that with a response. I was also having trouble with my car awile bake with misfire and an ASE certified mitsubishi specialist told my to just un hook my turbo and my car will run fine. REALY. the whole electrical system runs on turbo set up. And he is ASE certified? you got to wonder sometimes

Ironically, my instructor's first time running into a turbocharged vehicle (way back when, but he was ASE cert) he couldn't find the source of a misfire for the life of him. He had no idea how turbos worked and had checked everything else so he wound up ordering a new turbo for it.

After installing the new turbo, a young mechanic who happened to own an old Maserati BiTurbo came over to help when the misfire was still present. He reached over and tightened the clamp on the throttle body and the problem was confirmed as fixed on the next test drive.

ROFL

Still the absolute ass chapper i hear til this day, some ass clown always talks about turbo and turbo that and turbo this and when i pop my hood they ask "were is the turbo" WTF i say right there. they say oh thats a small turbo you need a big ass turbo i say that is a big turbo. a big 16g they still talk shit.

That reminds me of a system year old that used to come around my shop. He would always talk about his twin turbo eclipse and twin turbo honda. Continue to say he wanted to upgrade to stage four parts. His story continued on theodor the days telling me I need to go twin turbo and he would beat me all day cause he had twin turbo and a eclipse. In his world talons were slower. I ended getting mad one day and told him to go back and play need for speed.

At a fastest street car shootout last summer, the female tech inspector leaned under the hood of my car, looking right at the engine, and asked if it was a V-8.

This was my engine bay at the time.

So im at autozone with my car and this kid comes up to me he was driving a neon with some euro tail lights and autotragic with a filter and says his car could smoke mine because he has stickers well then i say lets race i walked him by like twenty car lengths he follows me back to autozone and he tells me some stuff about my car......

Kid: That car is my buddys old car he had his dad put in a v8 and twin turbos.
Me: Really I wanna meet this wizard.
Kid: What you mean wizard.
Me: The only way you are putting a v8 into a dsm is if you are a wizard.
Kid: Then how is your car so fast?
Me: Because im not a stupid ricer.
Kid: Yea I hate those RICERS!!!
Me: FML!!!!!!!!!

Sure you'd probably blow your motor, but you could run that much boost with the right turbos. You've missed some of the most challenging builds of late! Here's a pick of 99gst_racer's setup:

Kid talking to my buddy about his '66 Chevy

Him - What kind of engine does that have?
Buddy - 327?
Him - Oh a big block huh?

Damn That look sweet. But I would be afraid of getting a rock in my cam gears. I have nickle coated forged pistons and forged rods. The guy that helped me build it said it could probably handle up to 30-35 psi, but I know my head won't. Plus I could only afford the 16g turbo, but for me 12 psi on the street is plenty I can pull on most things out there, and if I need more I know I can get more.

Went to AutoZone picked up a KN air filter and the guy behind the counter asked "you need the oil for that too"... not terribly stupid just made me wonder if he thought the huge box the air filter came in was an oil filter. i know the kid used to work at walmart TLE so that might explain something.

Another when i first got my car i pulled up to a party and some kid said "Sweet car man, what is that a Saturn?" probably should have just decked him right there.

^+3
i personally oil all non paper oil filters because of how anal i am. it helps keep extremely fine dust out and i clean my air filter every oil change(gives you something to do while you wait for oil to drain), yes oiled filters get dirtier faster but better then more wear on the internals.

PJ1 FTW

LS1 swap has been done to a few DSMs, along with a few other V8s being dropped in. You don't need to be a wizard to figure out how to put a V8 into a car.

Maybe this is the dumbest thing a dsmer has ever said but you guys are really underestimating the v-tec engine. Yeah there is a lot of ricers with hondas but on a good setup they are actually pretty fast cars. My opinion is the number 2 cars that are annoying as can be is the 1990s v6 mustang guys and the cavaqueers really annoy the jesus out of me. The V6 mustang guys with there twin turbocharged engines are by far the best ones.

vtec is to increase fuel economy, street-ability and have the smoother idle of a mellower cam. it doesn't increase horsepower and only vtec-E increases torque.
the power increase you see going to a vtec head is due to better flow., a non0vtec head ported to flow like a vtec head and with an equally aggressive cam will make slightly more power then it's vtec counterpart
vtec is bad for performance why do you think most of the serious honda builders use cams that delete vtec?

+1 on v6 mustangs
