Dumbest things you've heard a DSMer say? :)

A guy pulled up at the local taco bell saw my dsm and took off he shifted gears and I hire a noise similar to that of a bov. He came back bragging about his car being turboed and fast he poped the hood there was no turbo to be found. He then insisted the turbo was in the exhuast under the car. I walked to the back of the car and there was that wondrful littel peice u buy on eBay to make your car make a bov sound. Hilarioushood
 
vtec is to increase fuel economy, street-ability and have the smoother idle of a mellower cam. it doesn't increase horsepower and only vtec-E increases torque.
the power increase you see going to a vtec head is due to better flow., a non0vtec head ported to flow like a vtec head and with an equally aggressive cam will make slightly more power then it's vtec counterpart
vtec is bad for performance why do you think most of the serious honda builders use cams that delete vtec?

How is vtec bad for performance? The more serious builder get rid of brevity because they sacrifice street drivebilty. Yes vtec limits the low end flow of the head but its for streetabilty issues but top end is the same as if vtec was deleted and it was camed the same thru the power band.
 
My friend who owns a '92 TSi AWD with the most basic of mods is going to get his car running tomorrow and smoke everyone in town, including my Mustang. But he "knows" the WRX I just kept up with on a highway pull will wax him. Makes my head hurt trying to comprehend his reasoning.

I am not the expert on that engine. But They do have higher VE levels than we do and can redline a lot higher. THats why you see some of these guys using these big azs turbos because the higher redline rpm allows it to have the effiency to do so. To my perspective.

I had a guy tell me to "go ahead and put another turbo on" I just said "ok Pedro" and paid for my window tint.
 
I was also having trouble with my car awile bake with misfire and an ASE certified mitsubishi specialist told my to just un hook my turbo and my car will run fine. REALY. the whole electrical system runs on turbo set up. And he is ASE certified? you got to wonder sometimes

well ill add this to the dumbest thing ive heard a dsmer say... the turbo has nothing to do with the electrical system.. LOLROFL:rolleyes:

you are referring to honda engines in general not vtec equipped engines

Oh yeah. Our engines put out more hp gains per modification and The GSX guys have a better drivetrain do to awd on the honda guys but there cars are lighter and what we were discussing up there.
 
So I was talking to this guy today at work. Not a dsm tuner but he seemed pretty cool and we were talking about the dragstrip at raceway park. He said he ran high 9s. He was telling me all the cars he ran at the strip at different times. 2 days later I told him about my eclipse and he said those cars were pieces of sh1t and were a waste of money to throw into without gaining much performance. I told him about John Shephard and Brent rau on there 1/4 mile times as an argument and I even mentioned the 7 sec 1/4 John had and the 6.87 1/4 Brent had. The guy said that isnt sh1t the guys with American V8s have ran 4s. He started saying some racist words about the Imports along with dropping the C bomb which really pissed me off. He even got ignorant enough to say that it takes 120,000 dollars to run high 10s in a dsm. He told me "when you get your eclipse done race me I only race for money though",. I talked to his friend on the mods he has done and he told me that he really hasnt done to much to it but he does have the 30th edition Z28(1990s series) which is loaded with a 350 chevy small block. I just want to know if you guys run accross dumb aszes like this and how I should go about this. I want to take this dude to the Muncie race track and throw down 200 dollars.

I was telling him about the forged JE pistons that are in my car. I even told him on a street application that awd(for the gsxers) would be better than rwd on street tires and he called the Eagle, JE and Crower parts that were on my car Magazine parts and said a real build would be custom cnc`d parts. "Those companies are cheap quality parts, you dont know sh1t kid I used to drag all the time, I see your pos eclipse blowing up after the first run. Not to mention you better put the boost all the way up on those(He obviously doesnt know turbo anatomy) Japanese plastic hot wheels to even be 4 car lengths behind me",. Also the most ignorant thing he said which really makes the imports great cars to build was that our cars take too much money to make fast.

Show him the 'made in USA' sticker on the door jamb and how the domestic Eagle/Plymouth are the replicas. Then mention Camaros were made in Canada (I forget when)

Or gas milage like your grocery getter but hits like a BAMF V8. Best of both worlds to me...

He sounds like a punk. Anyone that can't respect another person for modding whatever platform they choose, is not a true go fast enthusiast IMO

I work in the oil fields and deal with this alot. But I really don't care, I love my car and that's all there is to it :dsm:

In the V8 World, Eagle is some of the bottle barrel parts. As for Crower, V8 guys typically don't like BC, but shouldn't be any hate towards Crower or JE for that matter.
 
A couple of points; neither Shep nor Brent have a 420a, and last we read your car wasn't running. Has any of that changed, Spilner?
 
I'm going to admit I was a Cobra guy for years and even had a z06 at one point and I thought Eclipses/Talons were import POSs. Now, I think they're bad ass and I want an AWD 2G. My little Laser has surprised me with how easily it can be made fast. Trust me, it takes waaaayyyy more money to make a N/A Camaro run 10's than a dsm.
