Hey all, I'm back after going over all the info from my previous threads with more questions for the gurus.

The 99 GSX I just picked up has the dsmlink v2 ecu but no cable or adapter. After reading through on how there is no way to buy a cable or adapter it became obvious that I was going to need to upgrade to v3.

I contacted dsmlink and they were awesome explaining how to check on what I had and explained why I would need to get v3 because of people screwing them over with counterfeit gear.

I think they missed my last email though and I'd like to order my new injectors and the v3 package asap so I've attached an image of my board here. What I'm wondering is, do all I need to do is order the v3 package from them (the $545 one) and install the new "red" chip or do I need to send them the ecu for some custom work and a chip install?

Since you do not have the required items to qualify for a V2 to V3 upgrade, yes, you'll need to basically purchase ECMlink V3 straight up: http://www.ecmtuning.com/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=36

Post up some better pictures of the board. You want to make sure it doesn't have any leaky capacitors, or burned drivers. If there is damage, you can just send it to ECMtuning for repair, where they will install the ECMlink V3 chip for you all in one shot. Thanks for all the help everyone, I looked over the ecu board top to bottom and compared it to the pics and it is in great shape so I snagged the v3 chip and injectors from maperformance with the coupon code (thanks for the heads up on that too). Luckily there is a Fry's down the road so I'm going to snag a chip puller to be safe.

Should have everything installed and ready to tune for e85 and 91 in no time. After reading through all the tuning info I can I'm sure I'll be back looking for more help to make sure I or the dyno guys don't jack anything up.

yup. You could also try what rabenne suggested, but I haven't really seen anyone selling V3 Full for much less than 500.

EDIT: To be clear, the EPROM ecu was not included. I already had an EPROM ecu and do rework on PCBs on a regular basis, so it was a no-brainer for me.
 
I know this is off topic but are there any solid threads with an explanation of how to actually use v3? or does anybody have any tips?
 
The reason I'm asking is because I'm currently in the middle of a 2.0 to 2.3 stroker build which includes a 2g head swap with cams so I would obviously need to retune. If anyone could point me to a thread to answer my questions (yes I searched) or give me some pointers on what to look for I would be much obliged

P.S. I bought this car used with dsmlink v3 already installed so that's why I'm oblivious to how the system works. I have the cable but would I need to download any specific software on my computer to operate it? Or would simply plugging the cable into the laptop download the required drivers and allow me to go from there?
