I bought a 6bolt shortblock with 1k miles on the rebuild. I dont know if it has a topline or OEM oil pump. I know the topline ones are bad so I want to make sure its not. How can you tell the difference.

Not all top line pumps are bad. I had one with no problems with it. If you do have an oil pump problem you will find out in the first 5000 miles. If your real worried about it cut open the oil filters and inspect them. Any part will fail if is not installed properly. A mitsu case and gears will fail if you dont pack it and pre lube the motor.

There is really no way that I know of by looking at one if you can tell if its stock or not. Is the motor in the car or on an engine stand? If its on an engine stand then you can always disassemble it and check it out for adnormal wear. Make sure you pack the gears with assembly lube if all is good and going back together.
