Cx racing intercooler

So I did a boost leak test today (car is idling at 1800 rpm, can't get it any lower and I'm s.d. with a 10.0 afr) and my intercooler, couplers, a pipe and the bov are all leaking.

The intercooler is a spearco unit and has two threaded holes in the driver's side. I ran two bolts in and it's not leaking anymore.

The piping is pretty bad and the bov is a vortech bypass valve that's got a broke cap.

I'm using a GT35r turbo and wanted to know:

1 - there are mixed reviews on the cx fmic kits but most are from 2012 and earlier. Any one use one? Car is a 90 and.

2 - any bov reviews for their knock off type s?

Also does this kit mount to the big turn down turbos? Or is there a better "inexpensive" way to go?

There are lots of other routes to take. Why not ask a supporting vender, like ETS, about using one of their kits? May not be the cheapest route, but good quality parts are worth wait / money! Is avoid any type of knock off part honestly, sometimes you get a good o e, other times you don't. Hit and miss isn't going to make the car enjoyable for you. Do it right, don't do it twice!

I normally wouldn't but a hot rod magazine build used one of the cx kits and said good things so I was thinking the quality had gone up for the China stuff.

I trapped 130.75 in the 1/4 with a big chinabay turbo. IAT was 130f. This was summer time in Texas. I personally wouldn't go spending $500 on an intercooler. But obviously that's just my opinion.

I have a big cx racing fmic I got from a friend. It's just as nice as my vibriant fmic. I don't see any issues using it and will be with a hx35 once my gst motor is done. Doing all 3" ic pipes to go with the fmic I ordered all my piping and couplers from siliconeintakes.com, have been for years and not one issue.

no idea on the intercooler but on the BOV instead of the knock off why not get one from an Evo 9? holds well and pretty dirt cheap used.

ETS stopped making kits for the 1g. matter in fact, it seems like ALL the big well known companies no longer make a FMIC kit for the 1g. hence the reason I went with a Punishment Racing.

I want a type s bov and was going to get a ngr one after reading the reviews on it. I have a 1g bov on my shelf but miss my authentic greddy I had back in the early 2000s on my 91.

No idea on the brand. Bought it from a friend who got it off eBay. Cost me $70. I still have it somewhere. My only.gripe about it was that it was really tall so from the right angle you could see it stick out below the bumper a little bit.

If you are missing the type-s sound/performance, you will be happy with the NGR version. I had an original type-s about 10 years ago and bought an NGR last year for my current car and the performance is great. Even better than I remember from the original version.

That's what I have read. The only thing that concerns me is they didn't have alot of good information when I emailed them about a flange.

They are the same. My Punishment kit even had "CX Racing" on the box for the intercooler core.

For the intercooler, it depends on what your application is. Basically the biggest factor for intercooler efficiency will be the fin density inside the intercooler. The more fins=the more heat your intercooler can dissipate. Other factors are overall size and design, either bar and plate or tube and fin. For anything not real serious the cxracing kit will be fine.

As for the knockoff bov I've read if you replace the diaphragm with an ngr piece they work great.

+1 on the CX Racing/Punishment kit. No issues. Everything bolts up pretty well with no major fabrication.

I'm still using the cheapo bov that came with my Punishment kit and it has been working great. opening it up reveals a diaphragm that looks surprisingly similar to the ngr one, it even has the same unique "texture" the ngr one has. It also holds 21 psi without a problem. I hate having "cheap" parts on my car but I can't find a good enough reason to replace it yet.

Yea I was torn between the two but I really wanted to use my stock foglights so I went with the Punishment kit.

CX racing intercoolers suck 200* iat at the end of a pass. I bought abig Garret core and now it's ambient. It's up to you to decide if you have lower hanging fruit
