First of all i believe the 4g63 was fun and reliable. But i was going to do a dohc 4g64 6bolt swap. Because there's no replacement for displacement. Well except a turbo LOL. But a 2g has a 5 speed and with a 6000rpm to 8500rpm safe shift limit if stroked with 2.4l dohc 6 bolt. Also when my friend did his build he was having a hard time with finding a good 100mm 6bolt crank. Also transfer case and transmission kept breaking along with axels. And shifting through gears was supper fast due to shift limitations on 2.4. So now i feel like doing the craziest thing possible and would like some input from the dsm community. How would i go about putting a twin turbo 3000gt vr4 motor in a 95 talon tsi and still keep it awd? And if its possible could i use a 6 speed transmission? Sounds crazy i know but is it possible?

    The simple answer is no.

    The "yes" answer is:

Sell your DSM, buy 3kgt-vr4. Swap complete.

while it could be done in theory, however the cost would be out there in the thousands... at the least.
a lot of custom fabricating work would be needed to get it all together and working right, and unfortunately that usally equals more money.

But if your determined and really want this setup, nothing will stop you.

Ok, I removed the insults. But if you are trying to avoid snapping axles, I don't think a 3.0TT is the way to go.
And yes, you are right. Anything is theoretically "possible" but not necessarily prudent. But if you are swapping engines, I hope it is your auto-correct that is getting it "dune". Otherwise my read a book comment still stands :)

"Cost is no ishu" but your budget is 10k? For 10k you could build a 4G63 that will walk 99% of anything you come across on the street..10k into a swap like this will end up with a hacked up car and a lot of cussing. It's just not worth it IMHO

Good friends with junk yeard owner most parts for this will be free or really cheap pluss cash in hand and a good paying job 10k in hand to start is way ok i plan on spending the next 1-5years on this. Cut up car yes thats the point. Cussing always happens when things dont go as planed but thats what will make this so much fun. Doing something ridiculous just to feel good and have some fun. In the end it will be worth all the crazy late nights and shhhh getting away from the kid and wife LOL. This just seemed like a great ideal to bolw off stress on those days when i need a project. Ive spent lots of money on 4g63 and 4g64 motors and yes they are fast and fun this just seemed like a fun project after i helped my friend do his v8 swap in his 1g.

Hey this isn't a bad idea if money and time are not an issue and as with all swap projects there will be cussing and headaches. I'm pulling for you man, good luck.

I'm curious... what v8 ' s have you been swapping into dsm?

I'm guessing a complete floor pan refabrication for a sbc, powerglide, and live axle?

If its already been dune its not something that is being original anymore, to me that is a ishu.

I call for a dual engine 3 cylinder swap out of a couple of geo metros, twin turbo. One motor could run the front wheels, and the other could run the rear wheels...

    Git r dune!

I get the need to be original and to show others your fabrication skill and can also appreciate wanting to keep it in the Mitsubishi family, but you're taking a platform that already has awful weight distribution and you want to swap a horizontal heavy V6 in with an AWD drivetrain that will need extensive custom axles, driveshaft, bracketry, etc. just to have a slower, horrible handler that will get worked by guys with normal 4g63's and thousands less spent? The 3000gt trannies aren't known to be overly reliable either and the Getrag 6 spd can't even be rebuilt from what I've read, you have to send it in once it goes. And the earlier 5spds had their share of input/output shaft problems and can blow up a transfer case just like a DSM, though not as likely. As far as packaging goes, are you going to route the rear bank up front and do a single turbo, cause our engine bays are quite a bit tighter. Your V8 swaps are cake compared to doing what you're proposing and the newer aluminum LS motors are lighter than our iron block + turbo + accessories anyways so that swap made sense. There is a thread on here discussing the difficulties of installing just the 3KGT rear end, and actually it was English Racing down by you that gave the most input and had done it. Their conclusion was that it wasn't worth the work, just stick an Evo diff in and some nice axles meant for the DSM and enjoy! I just don't see the point here other than being unique and there are lots better ways to prove your individuality than to ruin another chassis! Put a 2JZ single turbo in and go RWD, turbo one of the V8's so you have a real trans not a Mitsu/Chrysler abomination, wear a chicken costume around and ride a tricycle, whatever it takes LOL.

With the advancements of our platform in the last six years or so, you would be much better using those skills to upgrade your current tcase to the 300m tail shaft and DSS driveline, throw an Evo rear diff in the 2g housing, and get a dogbox/faceplate trans or an auto. I guess if this is your solution to our manual trans woes then congrats on thinking outside the box, but my bet is that like 98% of the rest of the oddball projects which get started, this will end up with a junked chassis, a hole in your wallet, and no more updates or pics...

By all means, go for it. New sh** is cool. Buuuut, look at all the 6,7,8, even 9 HUNDRED hp 4g63s. Whats the point int he swap? 10 grand, if your machinist doesnt F up, will get you well past the 600whp range. Its not even a guessing game, just copy and paste from other members and voila: 650whp dsm.

Monkeying around in a tiny 2g bay is tough enough but i couldnt imagine working on a v6 awd TT shoehorned in there. Its tough enough in a vr4 from what ive read.

You correct the statement that the trannies aren't overly reliable by listing the things that need to be done to make them reliable? I am not arguing that they aren't stout in many ways, the gears in particular but how many broken down 3K/Stealths have you seen in your life that need a trans swap to be fixed as opposed to a motor swap cause I've seen a bunch? Before i got into DSMs all I wanted was a 3KGT but after years of following them (in 98-03 mind you) they were proving to be more troublesome than the Eclipse and I made my choice and the Getrags were indeed not serviceable nice to see thats changed somewhat LOL. If you need to start throwing billet diff caps and bracing, install billet/300m output shafts and transfer cases together, and can't even wind the motor out on a big ass single turbo due to synchro issues, then you're exactly proving my point it is not a solution to the weak tranny of the DSM to swap in another platform that also has challenges. Not to mention the fact that the swaps into the DSM don't usually use a Getrag although its custom fab so who knows what his plans are maybe he can get it to fit where others couldn't.

Point being you give someone that has decent knowledge 10k and they use it all DSM based parts, or you spend that same 10k and some junkyard resources to fab a 6G72 based frankenstein, I am positive the end result will be MUCH more rewarding and refined in the former. Again, that doesn't make you unique which is clearly the goal of the thread and to that I still say stick with the V8 turbo, RWD, 2JZ, etc. path as opposed to this craziness. Either way, I wish the OP well and was only trying to point out the shortcomings of the plan such as terrible weight distribution, similar driveline issues to consider, and the thought of throwing 10k down the drain to potentially end up with something that sucks worse than a normal DSM build but its his cash and more power to him if he proves me wrong!
