Sup guys so I have a oil leak so I got the leak UV dye kit and after doing everything I found that the oil looks like it's coming from the the timing cover and some how getting behind the cover than running down so that leads be to think it's coming from a camshaft oil seal. My question is how do I losein the drive belts to get the crankshaft to remove the timeing cover? I looked on here and YouTube and all I get is how to take off the crankshaft I just need to know how to get this belts loose?the reason why I need to do this is because at first I thought it was my head gasket but by the flow of the oil points more towerd the oil seal

What kind of car do you have. This topic has been covered a few times regardless of model

You may just want to take it to a shop for them to do the work, it seems like you won't be able to complete this project on your own. Be that motivation or advice loosening belts is only step 1 of the problem and you're unable to find the solution on your own

It's a 98 mist eclups rs and I have looked I even have the book and I did not see anything that said how to do this unless it's in a different part of the book. And you don't know me nor my ability to fix things I rack my brain for hrs and read my book and watch vid so I have lots of motivation thank you. All I need to know is how to do that that's all nothing more nothing less thanks.

I seen a vid a few hrs ago and I just seen another both was pretty much the same. I can't just run out to my car because it's dark out and car is parked outside but I will look tomorrow but would this be right for my car?

Please take no offense... but if you cant remove the belts without explicit instructions than you should not attempt this repair. It is not within your skill set at this time. Please consider paying someone to take care of your car until you are a bit more familiar under the hood.

No that video is clearly for a 2000 Mitsu galant not even close to the same as your 98 eclipse bro. Your motor is a 420a just remember that. It's pretty simple to loosen and remove the belts. Just look for the bolts or adjuster holding the alternator and or power steering unit that allow you to adjust them. Loosen those and move in direction that allows the belts to loosen and they will come off. But the guys are right bro. If you can't figure out how to take simple belts off. Or even look up things for your car and motor correctly. How do you expect to remove your timing belt correctly and do the cam seal. You mess the timing up and your motor will be toast bro. There's no second chances with a interference motor! Either get help or have this done by someone who knows the motor. http://2gnt.com/index.php?d=Timing_Belt_Replacement

First of all I have been looking it's funny how ppl can excuse you of not doing something when they don't know. I feel it's a simple question that I'm sure has a simple answer and that ppl are giveing other ppl who is trying to learn about there car and gets givin crap for asking a queston. How does everyone else know how? Someone told em or showed them and I'm pretty sure everyone comes here for answers for there questions wech shouldn't be all that hard to get but it seems a lot of ppl would rather give you carb and put you down for asking " dumb questions" for my there is no such thing as a dumb question but some ppl sure make you feel it is and don't give you the straight up answer instead of having to go there's ppl replays who question your abilities comon why can't I just get a answer to my question? Than we all can be on are marry way thanks

I know about the timing thing and if I don't line am up right it can rune my car i learned about this from videos and my book and yes I'm going to make sure I know how to do EVERYTHING be for doing what I have to do for a job that's why people come here right for help and tips? I already have a pretty good idea how to do EVERYTHING else but this but now I do I am going to keep looking things over in my book and videos to make sure I'm 100% for me this post is solved now thanks :) good luck with any future projects and let the boost be with you LOL..

trying to help bro. I understand you wanna learn and do it all yourself just be carful that's all. Somethings we just need more help with plain and simple. Not somthing you wanna mess up, like I said you won't get a second shot if it's wrong. The drive belts are like the simplest thing next to a oil change to do on your engine. So when we see someone asking how to remove them. We see cause for concern! ;)

Am almost 30 and I always till myself don't every say I can't because if other people can so can i. If I don't have the right tools to do the job I can get them and thanks for the heads up just like everyone else I came here to learn not get insalted you know? Any ways thanks for the info

Tip, don't search you tube for help. The best way to find information is by using the search function on this website just be sure you click the forums you want to search and click list in relevancy

I don't think anyone specifically wanted to insult you, but we want to help you add value to the site. There is a huge amount of information stored within this site and it's members. Mechanics pay subscription fees to get acess to this sort of data but we can get it on this website for free because a decade ago some one scanned in the entire factory service manual page by page to the Web for us all to use

You can also go to google, and type in "420a belt replacement site:dsmtuners.com" or "420a belt removal site:dsmtuners.com"

The belt system is manual design. On the 420a I remember there is a separate tensioner pulley that sits on a bolt at the middle of the belts. You loosen the bolt on the side of it and you can adjust the belts tension. It's something you would immediately notice if you had inspected the belts, or knew how the belt system works. I'm not saying you are not able to do it, you just seem to lack the basic ability to be able to search for information on how to do it

So for reading material go to google and try a few hours of light reading

Ok I will thanks.

if you really cant figure out how to release the tension in the belts then put a screwdriver between the belts and pullies and turn the crankshaft to let the belt "roll" off. You can always roll them back on once you have that cam seal in there... good luck!

Well it looks like ill be doing it myself. I asked a shop and they said it will cost $600 O.O might ask a few more but that's $ I don't have right now. Oh question since I know it's the cam seal of I don't get it fixed right now will it do anything to my car? Or will it just leak oil? Thanks
