Hi so I've gotten this E39A VR4 early last year & have had this issue since, probably should of looked into it a long time ago but oh well. It is my first turbo car so bare with me. So the dipstick was popping out spraying oil all over the place (even with being held down with a spring tied to it) though now has instead started smoking heavily under acceleration due to oil leaking into the downpipe. It has a td06 turbo which seems to be in good condition, no play what so ever though I'm guessing the seals are now screwed.

Just curious as to how I can sort out the pressure issue, the PCV valve rattles but sounds a bit clunky not sure if normal have never delt with this before. Also has a vented catch can set up.
Guessing I'm best off getting a compression test done? Work done on it only around 4000kms includes forged pistons, head stud kit, deck block, steal head gasket, bearings, balance shafts removed & fully balanced bottom end so wont be very pleasant news if the comp test turns out bad.

Thanks alot!

most likely the pcv valve is letting boost in the valve cover, pressurizing the crank case to a point to push the oil out.

block off the pcv nipple at the intake manifold and go for a drive. if it doesnt work then you may be having HG problem, or bad rings(hopefully not considering the amount of work done)

The piston rings are probably not well seated yet, but that wont give you that much of crank case pressure.

remove any straps you have on the dipstick before some worse happens

vented catch cans are not a good idea for a daily driven can. the valve cover breather should/must be routed to the intake pipe preferably w/o a catch can. that way whatever crank case pressure builds up, it will be sucked out by the turbo.

Take your time with this because the oil in the downpipe will be burning off for some time. So dont jump to conclusions to fast

Before running the engine any more do a leakdown test. That will rule out the rings and avoid doing more damage. If it checks out ok then do a compression test. If everything checks out ok then start looking for leaks or malfunctioning parts in the PCV system.

The $4 pcv valve prevents air pressure from building up in the crank case, when it goes bad it pushes too much air in the crank case and tries to blow the dip stick

You probably blew the turbo from too much oil pressure. The dip stick popping out is a very common problem with the pcv valve, and it sounds like that $4 part you never checked on just cost you a turbo

Is the valve cover breather port hooked up to the intake track like it's supposed to be? Also I would pick up a new oem pcv and swap it in.

No it's just running a hose to a catch can which has a filter on the 2nd port. Would it be best to remove the filter & run a hose off that port to the intake?

Read this PCV mod link http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/the-4g63t-pcv-system.366890/
check the inter-cooler piping for any oil, if there is any present clean out the inter-cooler with gasoline, and don't forget all the rest of the intake plumbing, then get the turbo rebuilt as well, or have a shop rebuild it for you, justin can help you there.

yes that would help. a good pcv valve with a check valve inline would help as well.

Okay just did a comp test -
180 180 115 180
Cylinder 2 went up to 140 with a bit of oil

White smoke pouring out of valve cover breather instantly on start up (constantly throughout revs also), a puff out exhaust
Very minimal smoke at idle, though huge clouds at high revs

White smoke would indicate a head gasket issue. Oil would be blue. Combined with the low compression on cylinder number three I would bet a blown head gasket. A leakdown test will tell you for sure, though.
