Pulling apart the stock tdh05 for a rebuild, the exhaust turbine housing has a few hairline cracks, 2 by the waste gate and 2 in the turbine area. Is this common? And is it worth repairing or even worrying about?

Very common bro as in everyone I've ever seen has some kind of crack in it. What you want to look for is how bad the crack is, does it go all the way thru the housing to the outside. If so than its junk, also how bad are the cracks around wastegate flapper area. If they are to big they could cause a leak which is not good. Once the turbine heats up like while driving the hairline cracks will seal up tight make sense. What I've done is port out the inlet and usually takes care of those cracks and the ones around wg flapper just leave alone.

2 hairline cracks by the waste gate, and bigger ones in the housing but nothing right through. Should I tack weld the big ones so they don't get worse?

Got any pics ? You could try and weld but I might try just porting it first to the size of the gasket if you haven't already. But deffinetly if you weld make sure it's all smoothed out good after. Or the other option is to find another housing, maybe ask Justin on here if he has any laying around.

I'll try to upload them, I have a spare housing but if I can fix it I will try. If I can't repair it I'll get another one, thanks.

Update: turbo rebuild is done, used the best housing of the 2. Wow was the turbo that came off the car shot, more shaft play than a honeymoon! Haha! Any way the smoking is done, had to cut out the cat from the exhaust and runs much better.
