Counterfeit Holset Turbos

Ok. I sold one identical to that to a guy on the west side of the state. If you had gotten from him, I could verify its authenticity. That one was likely new old stock for a transit bus.

Be advised the H1E's that use the huge 26cm2 turbine housing like the one in your example normally use the oddball 76/67mm turbine wheel that no aftermarket turbine housing(s) will fit. You may want to do some measuring before you seal the deal on this one.

Could i not simply change out the turbine wheel shaft, getting the smaller useable one but utilizing the same cartridge front compressor wheel and cover? Or is the cartridge the piece that also won't meet up to any t3 or dsm BEP Housing?

One could simply change the turbine, sure.

But after you buy a turbine, get the rotating assembly rebalanced (assuming the H1 in reference is an older model which has the 6-point locknut, noting it was assembly-balanced at the factory), and swap the thrust hardware to the HX-style plate and larger washer for better durability, you've probably spent more than if you had just bought a HX40 to begin with.

64mm by 76 mm hx40 turbine shaft


T3 .82 exhaust housing 3 inch v band exit


Would this work on a dsm with a t3 manifold?

Absolutely. Just search billet hx40 turbolabs on youtube and you'll see a bunch of their videos on it.

I will be new to owning a Holset turbo and just want to make sure I'll be good. I was using the pictures from the holset website on counterfeits but still can't tell. If anyone can chime in that would be great. This is an HX 35 I will be purchasing is it real? Seems legit to me but would rather not take a chance.

Looks fake to me, the serial # starts with C and thr silencer supports being machined stick out to me. I'm no expert, but I'd be wary.

This is all I could get at the moment but he will be sending more over soon, I thought the housing looking very nicely machined was a red flag but I've seen a lot of others on here that look similarly machined and everyone says they are real.

I would not run that turbo even if it were real. Many people have had problems with the hx40 in that exhaust housing.

I will have to look into it more. Looking in the holset threads I didn't see many problems with this setup

My turn for real or fake.. my only concern is the machining under silencer ring
