Counterfeit Holset Turbos

That depends on how it was described in the listing. If it was just listed as a "HX35" and made no mention of it being a Genuine Holset turbo, you're probably screwed.

I don't see any wheel damage, so the good news is you can probably get this unit repaired fairly reasonably....perhaps even use Genuine Holset internals for added reliability.

The general rule is that if a turbocharger says turbocharger on it then its not a real turbocharger

I received an hx50 in the mail today. I'm concerned that it isn't a real Holset. Here are some pics of the one I just got as compared with my friend's hx50, if you guys could help out with opinions I'd appreciate it.

Both real. I like the compressor better on the one on the right, but the turbine housing on the left one is much more-appealing.

I'm good. Much like someone trained to spot counterfeit currency, when you see this shit every day of your life it's easy to tell the difference.

Edit: After clicking the link and looking at the china made hotside they look liek holsets in cheap t3 hotsides. If they are fake they are in for a huge lawsuit. It's ok though the ones that are fake on ebay don't have compressor covers with the tag on them like that and holset type housings like the first pic you have they look more like this one

Probably not. Chinese don't really cooperate with the west on copyright infringement. This happens all the time with a lot more money at stake than turbochargers.

I'd say the best bet is to just remember that if somthing is too good to be true it probably is. You can't be a new holset for $200 bucks.
