I have a 95gst I want to put my computer in this car. Primarily to run an e-management software to make more hp and better engine performance altogether I figure I would wield a casing under my dash (my car is complete ripped out all I have is a dash and two front seat right now) I am getting 3 200gig hard drives to run music and I have one 20 gig to run my engine I know a lot about computers still learning about cars, getting better at them though. I have plans to rip the motor out in two months and do a full body make over (shooting for 900hp) hehe, but if you guys have any advise on the installing computer the best software to use etc. I would love for you to help me out a bit.
P.s. I went forum hopping but didn’t see any articles that really helped me out with this. I might have missed some but I did this for three days.

Considering you have the only year 2G DSM that came with an EPROM chip, I would recommend DSMLink if you're set on computer based logging and tuning. Read up on it here: http://www.dsmlink.com/

the dsmlink is just software right that is what i think i will plan to use. does anyone have any more advise on the whole puting a computer in my car like where is the best place to put it and what type of weild to use can i run it off of my battery should the computer start when my car starts up can i replace my ecu with it etc etc.

I'm not sure about where to run the power from as far as not overloading the circuit. It sounds like you'll be pulling a decent ammount of juice so you'll probably want to run wires off the battery(make sure you fuse it close to the battery) and switch it with a relay hooked up something that is only on when the car is running. You'll of course also have to wait for the computer to boot each time you want to do all this fine stuff.

I don't see why you'd need over 1/2 a terabyte worth of drives for music. I imagine you mean you'll boot from the 20gb drive. All that said in order to aid in accomplishing this you'll really need to work on streamlining your install and applications to reduce boot time.
What sort of display/controls(trackball?) do you plan on using and how are your mounting it?
You'll REALLY want to shock moun that sucker good(drives in the bay as well as the whole case) or you'll be loosing hard disks before you can say pothole.

What was your plan for supplying power? an inverter or what? I'm sure there are other issues that arn't comming to mind right now. I'll keep tabs here and try and add any help I can. I build/repair a lot of computers so I should be able to help some I hope.

you are asking the questions for me.(heh) i am still reading up on the subject it will take some time, but it will rock when i get it done. i need all of those hds because i have a friend who has that much music downloaded on his three hds and i like all the bands he does so i need that much memory and i have thought about the shock thing too i am going to i mount it with a welded in case but have the computer sit in a nicely foamed intercase (still letting it get air). and the loading up thing is what is worrying me the most i really do need to get that right on the money. the dvd rom and cd rom will go into my dash where the radio or cd player should be. and for controlls for it i am going to order a special and unique shifter that i have designed for my car. i will desplay all when i get done but i like to take things slow and carful so i done mess up so i will keep you posted and any advise you can give or deals on stuff would rule!!!

Do you honestly need a computer in your car with music downloaded on it? That is why they invented CD players. You would be a danger to yourself and, more importantly, to others.

Well I understand what you trying to do jedi and all power to you I went to school for computers myself but the way I look at it if you're trying to make a car with good hp numbers music might be the least of your worries but save the computer idea for later as Gigaah said dsmlink would be the best for your car and as for the bickering I would suggest reading the forum rules http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/faq.php?faq=faq_rules#faq_attacks.
